A 2400 sq foot duplex apartment, T-103 was designed for a young couple and their beagle in a very minimalistic, yet vibrant language. Usage of bright highlights for the living, and neutral colours for the rest of the house reflects this. The reclaimed hardwood finished with their natural oil adds warmth to the home.

Living & Dining
Located in a posh area of Chennai, small one bedroom apartment of 450 sqft had to be converted in to a two bedroom apartment - without breaking any walls. We proposed an interior design solution to an area and affordability problem.
03
Bedroom-1 02
The design solution proposed made use of simple materials like ply and hardwood partitions and integrated storage - partition to separate the space. The kitchen which was large, was made into a small kitchenette, and a room was carved out of the portion.
This was my first complete project at Madras Makers for which I took complete responsibility , from design drawings, choosing materials to production supervision and site coordination. 01
Typical Layout Plan
01:The corridor patition is integrated with a 02:Wardrobes integrate with partition and 03:The main living cum dining space. Minmal usage of furniture, with the chairs being usable for wardrobe on the inner rood side (ddor to the sides in to save usable circulation space. living space as well. room is open) and shoe storage with moirror on the outer side.
04:The hardwood parition doubles up as a 05:Integrated wash and fridge partiitons. The storage tall unit for the kitchen from the other bathroom and toilet are separated to enable side. The storage partition that is clad with maximum usage with minimum wait time. hardwood on one side (living room) and painted on the other i.e kitchen side.
06:The other bedroom work area & wardrobe are integrated to occupy one side of the wall while the other side, flanked by a wooden fixed partition, can be used to place the bed against.
The main takeaways from thi project were on material optimization and multi tasking of design solutions eg. a partition that can double up as storage. In addition, the constraint on space led to a thorough study of ergonomics to give optimized design solutions for comfortable usage of the furniture and spaces.

The material used was ply and MDF, both cheap and easy to sculpt out of. With 3 individual removable parts - two leg templatesand the seat whick lock into each other, the stool is easy for production and assembly.
Seating Top - with two slots to add backrest if necessary.

The offset light diffuser is removable. It is fixed with magnets and made of oxford cotton framed in teak
The inner cavity and edge ring to hold the diffuser in position.By making The mirrored pentagon plank on top. Each geometric shape was the the right triangle template to be a placeholder at the vertics where made from a 30mm thick plank that was split, mirrored and joined the top pentagon meets the other pentagons, the the slope and positions to ensure a symmetrical finish on each shape. of other pentagons and triangles were achieved.
