Logo for IBLP or Intramural Client: SWA are in need for new Logos of the IBLP or the intramural games to be put up around the school. Unit Question: How important are the logos of a company? Time Allowed: 5 weeks Specification and limitation: - Must relate to IBLP - Simple - Done to the time frame Documented Evidence: Documented evidence will record the process of making the Logo from the start of the Create stage till the product is completed. It will be accompanied by a series of picture. Sunday, December 11, 2011
Introduction My client is a school in Tangerang Indonesia called Sinarmas World Academy. Their problem is that their current logos for the Ib Learner Profile isn’t attractive enough for the students. They want a logo that is simple, eye catching and also relevant to the IB Learner Profile. Therefore they request assistance in creating such logo which is simple, eye catching and at the same time relevant. Since my client wants to place the logo across the school, the logo has to be suitable for both High Schoolers and Primary Schoolers. Through out the rest of the Term I’m going to create logos that are suitable for the IB Learner Profile. To create a good logo as a product, there are some steps in which I have to go through. Those steps are Investigate, Design, Plan, Create and Evaluate. I will interview some of the Teachers in SWA to find out their problems and specification of the Logo they wanted. The time management will be made in a form of Gantt Chart before departing to Create Stage to make sure time efficiency and dead line schedules. During the create stage, I will try to keep the product as similar as possible to the final design. The product’s result will be based on some factors like; Style, Size, Quality, Durability, Relevancy and Specification acquired.

AOI (Areas of Interaction) This project will relate to the AOI of Human Ingenuity because I will be designing and creating a logo that suits my client’s specification and limitations. Human Ingenuity is about both Creating and also Creativity. I will use the interview from my client and also the research that I’ll be doing in the Investigation stage to Investigate, Plan, Design, Create and Evaluate. This project will also shows creativity because creating Logo needs lots of creativity to make that logo Eye catching and still up to the client’s standards. Also my skills in using softwares to create the product will also be shown in this project. Therefore making this project most relatable to Human Ingenuity that the other five different Areas of Interaction. Sunday, December 11, 2011
Client Interview (Questions) • What can you tell about the current IB Leaner Profile Logos? • Any specific type of Logo that you’re looking for? • What are the standards of a good Logo that relates to the IBLP? • What are the limitations of a good logo that relates to the IBLP? • How big do you want the logo to be? • What is a reasonable budget for this project? • Do you have any limitations in regards to time frame of the creation? Sunday, December 11, 2011
Client Interview (Answers) • I like the IB logo blue. Its simple and bold. But I don’t like the IB Learner Profile Logo (1) • What is important for a logo is that it can stick in mind and it can be associated. (2) • Generally the logo should be simple yet affective and projects the IBLP (3) • Not to many letters in the logo because I think people just want to remember image, not the letters. (4) • It can be any size, pixels (5) • $50 (6) • 5 weeks (7) Sunday, December 11, 2011
Client Interview (Summary) From the client summary, I can be certain that the client wants a good effective logo in regards to the IB Learner Profile. The client is concerned that the current Logo for the IB Learner Profile is too mashed up and quite confusing, unlike the IB logo it self which is very bold yet simple. I found out that the type of logo the client is looking for are those types that can stick in our minds and people can easily associate that to the IB Learner Profile. The logo specification that the client suggested is that the Logo should not be covered with words, instead just images of the logo it self. The client wants people to remember the logo for the image and not for the words. The size of the logo can vary depending on where it will be placed, though the client mentioned to publish it in large pixel therefore the logo will not be pixelated if it were to be expanded. The budget set by the client is more or less $50, which is basically printing only. Last but not least the time required to complete all the logos are 5 weeks in total. This interview has helped me a lot in deciding the designs upon my logos.

Case Study Summary
When searching for Logos, I mainly looked at different types of Logo that might suit the specification. This research helps me to understand better on the different types of Logo. The price was all reasonable due to the facility that I currently posses. All three logo types posses the same aim and purpose: To be recognize, promote and memorizable. Three of the logos have both Pros and Cons. This has helped me to understand better in the things I should look at in designing the logos later in the design stage. Sunday, December 11, 2011

Impacts on Environment If I were to make the logo for the IB Learner Profile, I will be using several materials which would certainly have impact on the environment even though minor. Using photo editing software as a media means I must have a computer. The computer is made with some components that can harm the environment such as the components in the CPU that has chemicals. Other than computer components I will also be using POWER/Electricity. Unfortunately most of the electricity found in Jakarta is still generated by a power

Impact to Society To make a new logo means to give impact on society about something new, therefore this project will have a great impact upon society. By making a new attractive logo I can be sure that many students will be informed and acknowledge better the IB Learner Profile. They will know the existence of a certain IB Learner Profile and their new logo. When a society started to understand a concept and remembers, it is a great possibility for them to apply the knowledge. This impact their daily life, like their studies in school.

Design Brief I will design and create logos for the IB Learner profile or Intramural Games that is relevant and also eye catching. To create this product I will need to go through the rest of the Design Cycle which are Design, Plan, Create and Evaluate. The Investigation, Design and Plan are to be done before creating the product because it is important to know the different types of logo, how we are making it and what is the look of the product (Design). The create stage will be done in IT Class within 2 weeks of time frame. It’ll be using the Macs and some photo editing software. When the product is made it will be evaluated in the Evaluate Stage. Once all of those are complete the logos are to be submitted back to the Sunday, December 11, 2011

I will try to keep in the enough time to make the Logos it self. deadline.
Size Aesthetics Target Audience Sunday, December 11, 2011
The size of the logo may vary depending on which locations they are to be placed. I will make a high resolution Logo Image so if it is to be expanded, it will not be pixelated
I will ask my client about their types of size requirements. As I design and create, I remember to make a logo that is able to be produced in High Resolution.
The Logo must be eye catching, relevant and related to the IBLP. This The designs that I make will be kept in the style of is because people will need to be attracted to the logo, and at the eye catching, relevant and related. Therefore ensuring same time being able to remember in their heads what the logo is for. the product to look pretty much the same.
The target audience for this project is the students, staffs and teachers of Sinarmas World Academy
I will need to ask more from the community to see what they really want a Logo of the IB:P should look like for them to be interested.

Summary of Investigation • Interview that was done with my client provides information about what they want, specifications and limitations of the Logo for the IBLP • The case study in which I compared 3 different types of logo helped me a lot later on for the design stage. I now know the limitations and supposedly minimize that. • The research about impacts towards the environments and society makes me think about how my products will have impacts upon both environment and society. • My specification points and the testing will be my guide during the design stage and also the create stage. The design and the product will be based on those specifications. The testing will help me ensure the Logo is up to the client’s standard and specification. Sunday, December 11, 2011

Summary of IBLP Designs
Sunday, December 11, 2011
Summary of Designs Design 1: This design represents the “Balance” in the IBLP. This Logo shows a person doing Yoga with the background of a Yin and Yang logo. This pretty much shows how the logo represents “Balance” because it has elements of balance symbols. It will be enclosed by a colorful ring which represents the world and the IBLP. Design 2: This design represents the “Caring” in the IBLP. This logo shows two hands of a person in a shape of a heart. By showing the two hands means helping and caring for each other, while the heart represents care and empathy. This will be colored in red to emphasis on “Care” and as well as suiting the heart shape. Though I believe I will find some challenge in creating this logo because it requires me to make a heart shaped hand shake. Design 3: This design represents “Open Minded” in the IBLP. This logo shows a crescent shaped opened window shade which opens to the view of the world. The window shade is opened as a symbol of us being “Open” to new ideas and to the world. Yet I believe some might get confused by the true meaning since it looks like a ball with a tiger motifs. Sunday, December 11, 2011
Summary of Designs Design 4: This design represents the “Risk Takers” in the IBLP. This logo shows a word “Risk” with a person jumping off from the other side. This design shows how that person took the risk of doing something new and jumping to the unknown yet still excited of finding out what’s behind. Unfortunately this design is too simple and perhaps needs a few modification later on in the create stage. Design 5: This design represents the “Reflective” in the IBLP. This logo shows patters of waves and also trees and the reflection is shown underneath. The beach and trees represents holiday and relaxation while waves represents hard work. These are both reflected underneath showing reflection of the pattern. This is a unique logo, yet there might be some difficulties in making the wild patter of the waves. Design 6: This design represents the “Inquirer” in the IBLP. This logo shows a question mark surrounded by the cyber gates that opens. The question mark represent inquiry from the students while the cyber gate represents an opening for answers. This logo might be effective if people doesn’t get caught up with the question mark and thinking it’s a question box. Sunday, December 11, 2011
Summary of Designs Design 7: This design represents “Principled” in the IBLP. This logo shows a circle which is surrounded by three barriers to protect. The inner circle represents the principle or belief of a student while the three barriers are representing actions and defense against forces who are against it. The only problem with this logo, is many might not understand its true meaning and thought its a Cyber logo. Design 8: This design represents “Communicators” in the IBLP. This logo shows the symbol of a telephone with the world map on the background. This telephone represents communication while the world represents communications through out the globe. This is a good design since it represents communication to the international world. Design 9: This design represents “Knowledge” in the IBLP. This logo shows a mind map in the shape of the Brain cell. Those complicated design represents knowledge in wide variety of range. This is an effective design to show knowledge but the mind map design might not be able to be done so easily. Design 10: This design represents “Thinker” in the IBLP. This logo shows 4 gears with a lightbulb inside the biggest gear. The gears represents thinking while the lightbulb represents ideas generated from it. This is a good design since it relates much with Thinking. Sunday, December 11, 2011
Summary of Animal Designs
Sunday, December 11, 2011
Summary of Designs Design 1: Design 1 is a Tiger in which will be used as one of the intramural games logo in Sinarmas World Academy. The Tiger it self represents strength, courage, fierceness and power. I personally liked the logo since it showed how fierce and powerful the tiger is. Though one concern that I have is that it looked a bit like a Lion since I minimize the stripes. So I might add some changes later on by adding more stripes to make it “Tiger” looking. Design 2: Design 2 is a Manta Ray in which will be used as one of the intramural games logo in Sinarmas World Academy. The Manta Ray it self represents flexibility, strength, power and domination in within. I personally liked how the logo is done simple and is just to represent those points. My only concern is that people will think it’s too simple and the Ray has no head on it. Design 3: Design 3 is a Komodo Dragon in which will be used as one of the intramural games logo in Sinarmas World Academy. The Komodo Dragon represents strength, fierceness, power, domination and uniqueness. I personally think the logo is cool and is quite bold for a Komodo Dragon. Though I have concerns that the Komodo Dragon that I drew resembles too much of a Snake and people might have mistaken that for a Snake. I might make some changes to make it look more “Komodo” looking.
Sunday, December 11, 2011
Summary of Designs Design 4: Design 4 is a Shark in which will be used as one of the intramural games logo in Sinarmas World Academy. The Shark represents courage, boldness, fierceness, strategic and also domination. It is powerful logo. I personally designed the logo so it looked more or less like the Rip Curl Logo Concept. It looks more wavy and the shark looked bolder and cooler. I like the logo and I don’t really have any concerns except for the high difficulty level in creating it. Design 5: Design 5 is an Orangutan in which will be used as one of the intramural games logo in Sinarmas World Academy. The Orangutan represents flexibility, courage, uniqueness and strategic. I personally zoomed into the face of the orangutan because that’s where everything happens. I’m not so good in terms of drawing eyes, so it looked a little bit scary to me. Therefore some changes needs to be made in terms of that.

Evaluation of the Plan - Is the plan SMART? My plan is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Fits the Time Frame. From the step by step plan, I have inserted pictures with the explanation which is specific in telling people what to do. The logos are achievable to make due to the technology we have today, with applications like Pixelmator or Photoshop, making logos aren’t as hard. The Time frame is around 2 weeks for the create stage which I think should be enough for creating the logo since I tried designing them simple. - Is the plan set in logical steps? I think my plan is set in logical steps which can be seen from both the Step by Step and the Gantt Chart. I think it would be best if both of them are used together since they answer to each other. For example perhaps more detailed steps are inserted in the Gantt Chart, also the Gantt Chart provides time frame for each step. The steps are planned so that it doesn’t go from start to end and to middle, they are logical and followable. - Modifications? My plans of modification lies in several designs, one of them is the Tiger in which I have to add more stripes, some other I might reduce the complexity to fit into the time frame and the Pixelmator Capabilities. - Conclusion I think the plan went well and everything is set for the create stage. The only thing that needs to be understood is how the step by step is used along with the Gantt Chart to provide clearer explanation in the process. Sunday, December 11, 2011
Chosen Design - Which one is the Chosen Design? I’m choosing the intramural games logo which is the second set of the logo consisting of 5 Animals. The 5 animals are Shark, Tiger, Komodo Dragon and Orangutan. - Why have I choose this? I have chosen this set because firstly I think 5 designs will suit the limited time I have and also I have a great vision about making these animal logos. Another thing is that I think most cool logos are generated from Animals. - Modifications? I think I will only modify some of layout or color, but nothing of the concept. Instead of making a 2D border, I will try and make a 3D version. Also for the color, I think I will put some orange mist in the background. - Conclusion I am certain that I am going to make 5 logo creation for 5 animals to be used in Sinarmas World Academy’s intramural games. The 5 animals that I’m going to create using are Shark, Tiger, Komodo Dragon and Orangutan. I think choosing this set will suit the time line and is having the potential of creating a cool logo. Sunday, December 11, 2011

Documented Evidence (1) On the first day of the create stage I have done some starting research on techniques of making a 3D border for my Logos. I looked at websites like Pixelmator Tutorial since I’m using Pixelmator to create the Logo. This took me around 20 minutes before then I opened a blank Pixelmator document to start working on the first logo which is the “Shark. At first, I had some trouble creating layers, gradients and filters. I struggled for the first 30 minutes. In the end I got the hang of creating layers, gradients and filter which makes me able to finish the first logo with the rest of the time I had in class. The Shark was hand drawn with Pixelmator, I wanted to make it original and not taken from Google.
Sunday, December 11, 2011
Documented Evidence (2) On the second lesson I proceed with the next logo which is the “Orangutan” logo for the intramural games. The Orangutan concept is slightly different from the Shark. The Shark Concept is a Rip Curl Body within a circle, yet the Orangutan Concept is a close up face within a rectangular frame. This wasn’t as challenging as creating the Shark since it only requires 3 Layers while the Shark require 10. I finished this within the first 30 minutes of class and spending the rest of class making the 3rd logo. The 3rd Logo that I created was the Manta Ray Logo. The Manta Ray Concept is the same as the Shark which is a whole body in a circle. Again, I decided to draw using Pixelmator and several image layers from Google to create the Manta Ray. Since Manta Ray has the same concept as the shark, I decided to use the shark border and background template. I changed the background color to blue but kept the 3D Border. Then I just inserted the Manta Ray to the middle. I managed to finish this by the next 30 mins of the class.
Sunday, December 11, 2011
Documented Evidence (3) On the third day of the create stage, I decided to take on the Tiger Logo for the school’s intramural games. The Tiger is so far the hardest of the other creation that I’ve made. I needed to make a Tiger Drawing with combination of “Real” and “Rip Curl” pattern in which is NOT easy to draw in Pixelmator. Since I have no Bamboo Tablet to draw, I was forced to use the Trackpad to draw. I came across struggling to draw a good “head close up” curve of the Tiger. This took me 30 minutes to draw, polish, change and final edit the drawing. The next stage is easier, it is again to use the Shark template that I’ve create and putting a new layer for the drawing of the Tiger. Apparently this stage is harder than I expected since I have to suit the Tiger to the Curve of the Circle. Against all odds I manage to finish it by the end of class.
Sunday, December 11, 2011
Documented Evidence (4) On the fourth day of the creation stage I decided to make the last of the 5 logo in the Animal Logo Set. The logo that I created is the Komodo Dragon Logo. I figured out that making the Komodo Dragon will be as tricky or even harder than making the Tiger Logo. I started off by drawing the Komodo Dragon Curve head on Pixelmator. Again I have difficulties drawing the head of a Komodo Dragon with out a Bamboo Tablet or a proper skill in drawing animal heads. Again I managed to finish the drawing and perfected it on the first 30 mins. The rest of the class was used to put the Komodo Dragon to the Shark template. I managed to complete this by the end of class. Therefore I was on schedule all the time and managed to complete all 5 logos by the dead line.

Evaluation
Sunday, December 11, 2011
Evaluating on Each Design Cycle Stages - Investigation The goal of this project is to create a logo for either the IBLP or the Intramural Games of Sinarmas World Academy. Investigation is the start to all the design cycle. In this stage I interviewed my client about what kind of Logo they would like to have as a product. Also I got information on the limitation and also expectations. I did a brainstorming about what kind of logo should it be, like is it going to be a logo with title, just logo or just title. This stage really helped me sort out what kind of Logo I should make and how I should design them in the design stage. I think the investigation goes well and it was great to know that the research on different applications helped me make the logo in the correct software. - Design The design stage is basically for me to design the 2 sets which are 10 designs of logo for the IBLP and 5 designs for the 5 animal logos for the Intramural games. It is not that easy to design 15 designs in a short period of time. Other than having the designs to be good, the designs must also suit the compatibility of the softwares that I’m going to use to create the logo. Despite all the odds, I managed to finish the 15 designs in time to evaluate all the 15 designs. I think I did a good job in designing all 15 designs in such a short time. In the end I chose the intramural games logo since 5 designs suit my time range and also it has a greater chance of producing a cool logo. - Plan The plan stage is simply for me to plan out the stages that I’m going to take in the creation stage and also to plan the timing for the entire creation stage. I think I did quite a good job in the planning since the time line suits the time I had to create the logo. Also, I think I did the step by step plan quite greatly. I put in screen shots on how things are to be done and I inserted some caption underneath to further support the images. Though I think the steps might not been as detailed, but it is good to use the step by step plan along with the design cycle. Sunday, December 11, 2011
Evaluating on Each Design Cycle Stages - Create The create stage is the time in which I will create the chosen design set which in this case is the 5 logo for the 5 intramural games logo. I created the documented evidence for this project since we only had 4 lessons on completing the 5 logo. Therefore each documented evidence is important and significant on the progress of the logo creations. In this stage I have some difficulties in starting off creating the logo in Pixelmator since I’ve only been using Pixelmator only for photo editing and never used it to create logos. Yet in the end I managed to get the technique from the Pixelmator tutorials and managed to finish all 5 designs right on deadline. So, I think I made quite a progress in create stage. - Evaluation For evaluations through out this project I think I have evaluated on every stage. I have my client feedback to evaluate on the investigation stage, then I have evaluation on each design in the design stage, I have summary or evaluation of the plan stage, I have a documented evidence to evaluate on my creation stage and finally I have an evaluation stage for all the design cycle to close up. The only missing part from my evaluation might have been the peer to peer evaluation since I didn’t quite have that in the Keynote. Perhaps it would be better to have that to further evaluate on my work.

Evaluation Against Specs Title
Test
Material
To test wether Pixelmator & Adobe photoshop is the correct tool to make the website, I have done several research and tried other tool. But none are as customizable and easy as them.
Time
In the plan stage I will be required to make a time line or a gantt chart for the amount of time I must complete a certain stage. I will try to keep in the deadline.
Size
I will ask my client about their types of size requirements. As I design and create, I remember to make a logo that is able to be produced in High Resolution.
Aesthetics
The designs that I make will be kept in the style of eye catching, relevant and related. Therefore ensuring the product to look pretty much the same.
Target Audience
I will need to ask more from the community to see what they really want a Logo of the IB:P should look like for them to be interested.

Good or Not
Why?
☺
It is successful because I managed to learn to use Pixelmator and used it as a tool to make all the designs. Also Pixelmator is available to my Mac.
☺
It is successful because I managed to finish all the 5 logos of the 5 animals for the intramural games logo in time.
☺
It is successful because I managed to make the logo in pixelmator in which I purposely made it in a large canvas with a high resolution so it can be stretched with out being pixelated.
☺
It is successful because I managed to make the logo in a very eye catching and cool way. I added some Rip Curl effects and also used layers to make it 3D.
☺
It is successful because I managed not to put any inappropriate violence image for those little kids, therefore it is appropriate for all ages.

I will look at more types of logo that is effective for intended aspect.
Purpose
Durability Sunday, December 11, 2011
I will have a little interview with the client or the students to see what kind of logo they want.
I will make sure that both copy (Hard and soft) is available in enough number.
Good or Not
Why?
☺
It is successful because the logo is representing the Intramural and the animals that were requested.
☺
It is successful because the logos have served its purpose as a logo which is to represent the sports in the intramural games.
☺
It is successful because I made both hard and soft copy. So if by any chance the hard copy is gone, the soft copy is available for durability purposes.
Successful and Least Successful Points - Successful Points There are some successes that I have encountered during the creation of the logos. I think success points lies in the create stage in which I managed to create all 5 logos by the dead line but still able to make it presentable, cool and relatable. I like the designs that I made since the concepts range from simple, complex to funny. Also in the create stage I think I have found some new techniques in creating logo using Pixelmator as a media to do so. - Least Successful Points There are also some leas successful points that I have encountered during the creation of the logos. I think the least successful points lies in the editing and final touches of the logos and also the documented evidence of the logo. The logo that were published might have had some defects such as tiny white lines that I can’t erase due to making layers. Even though the lines might not be visible, but I think logos should go as perfect as they could before being published.

Problems and Improvements - Problems: I had some problems during the creation stage. I’ve never actually used Pixelmator for the purpose of making logos, so I had some difficulties making patterns and gradients for the logo. This caused some delay in the creation since learning new features in Pixelmator and being able to use it professionally is not that easy, though in the end I managed to coupe up back with the schedule. - Improvements: I’ve made some improvements towards the design. The first improvement I made in the design is the to make the circular border to look 3D. This require an extra step since it is not easy to pop the circular border. Another improvement that I made is to the color of the logo. I made some starturation and blur of an orange color in a form of a smoke on the background instead of a patterned background. This turns out to look better than just putting a plain patterned background. Another improvement that I made is the drawings of the animals. Instead of making the animals from paint textures, I drew the animals using spray textures. This fits really good with the mist orange background and it ends up glowing when placed on top of the mists. Sunday, December 11, 2011
Impact on Society and Environment - Impact on Environment: After making the 5 logos for the school’s intramural games, by using the materials that I have been using to create them, I think they might have some impacts upon the environment. Using photo editing software as a media means I used a computer. The computer is made with some components that can harm the environment such as the components in the CPU that has chemicals. Other than computer components I will also be using POWER/Electricity. Unfortunately most of the electricity found in Jakarta is still generated by a power plant that uses un-renewable energy such as coal. Though the energy consumption is not much, but then by the fact that we are using un-renewable energy resource, we have contributed in the destruction of our planet.
- Impact on Society: To make a new logo means to give impact on society about something new, therefore this logo making project will have a great impact on the society in terms of their acknowledgements of the sports. By making a new attractive logo I can be sure that many students will be informed and acknowledge better of the school’s intramural games. They will know the existence of a certain intramural games and their new logo. When they saw a certain logo and if they are interested, there is a great chance that they will contribute or join the games.
