UNINTERRUPTED 1. Hey Afua Rida, Can you introduce yourself to the SKY Nation? I am a Ghanaian fashion blogger, fashion stylist and consultant. 2. You started out as an actress, but now you seem to be completely involved in fashion. Tell us how that started for you. While studying in Montreal, Canada, my love for fashion grew. I started to volunteer and work in the industry until I settled in the styling sector. I decided to start my company then later focused on working with some of my favourite fashion brands. 3. You do so many things like blogging, styling and modeling. What’s a regular day like for you? Often mistaken, I am not a model but a fashion blogger which means I show off the clothes I love. A regular day usually consists of meetings with clients, planning projects, and then actually doing these projects. My favourites are doing photo shoots and producing fashion shows!

4. Your Instagram feed is so cool, what inspires the kind of posts you put up?
Hi girls! Fashion can be a lot of fun to play with. There is so much out there especially on social media. I encourage you to define what your fashion style is. Find what you love the most and go with that. Don’t try to fit in because you think that is what is safe or what everyone is doing. Be you as much as possible.
5. So what are your plans for the new year, and how will you plan to stick by them? My plan is to always make plans! Make lots and lots of lists with deadlines to them. I want to up my game and challenge myself. 6. So what’s your thing and not your thing? Hahaha very general question. Positivity is my thing. It is important to bless people with good vibes no matter where you go. It is hard sometimes, but we have to try. No judgments on people and to forgive easily. I believe that there is room for everyone to succeed and so we shouldn’t block the blessings of others. Not my thing? Trying to fit in. You can easily know when someone is being authentic and when someone is faking it. There’s so much pressure for our young girls nowadays but there is beauty in being true to who you are!

My number one goal is to play my part in the African fashion industry. Since there aren’t too many media platforms to showcase what Ghana and Africa can do fashion-wise, my dream is to bridge the gap between those who design and make the clothes with those who buy the clothes, and then finally spread this out to the rest of the world. The best way for me to tell this story is through my personal style. I wear the clothes I love, and inspire trends and styles.

Seems like New Year was only yesterday, but here we are, already past the first month of the year and it feels like all the mystery and excitement has fizzled out. Most of us can only vaguely remember the resolutions and dreams we started the year with…whether it was the desire to gain admission to the senior high school/university of your choice, get fit, or spend more time with the bestie. At the heart of it all, it’s never too late to take the opportunity to improve yourself!
So whether you set New Year resolutions or not, have completely forgotten about them or are religiously sticking to them, here are a few tips you can use to achieve those goals: GO HARD AT IT NOW! - Research says new habits can be formed within 1-2 months, so if your goal is to get fitter, make sure you make a plan and stick to it for 2 months. Doesn’t seem so bad now, does it! After that, you’ll be so used to it you won’t even think about it. SHOUT IT OUT TO THE WHOLE WORLD - Don’t just write your goals down quietly. Announce them to your family and friends you trust. It makes you more accountable not only to yourself but to everybody else that matters to you too. With that, you will have a whole cheerleading team behind you and you will undoubtedly encourage them too as they watch your journey of success. REMINDER MEMOS - Make copies of your resolution to hang in your room. The more reminders, the better. POSITIVE VIBES ONLY – Lastly, make sure you have a positive and winning mindset. Have an inner conviction that anything is possible to achieve. Positive thinking can improve your confidence and overall mood. Surround yourself with go-getters like you, that way you will affect each other with only good vibes and energy. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you miss your resolution once or twice. Just keep at it and watch all your goals get accomplished.

We just wanted to show appreciation for the likes, comments, shares, DMs and the pictures you tag us in. In the month of November, IreneRapheal Eyram Gnorsibia emerged as the most interactive person on our page. She won herself a ride and lunch date with Yaa Yaa!
This is how she recounts her experience:
IRENE - I couldn’t stop screaming when I checked the SKY Girls page on Instagram and realized I was the Star Girl for the month of November. I was just too happy. I love commenting on SKY posts and helping out with SKY advice – I mean, it’s all about the sisterhood! I won a ride and a lunch date with Ghana’s recording artiste, songwriter and actress Yaa Yaa, who I later got to know is actually called Bertha Bridget Kankam. I just couldn’t wait to meet her in person. I’ve always wanted to hang out with a celebrity!
Fast forward to when I met her. Oh my, such an awesome personality, nothing short of what I expected. The ride to our lunch date was super fun! We took unlimited selfies and snaps in the car. You can tell she’s a SKY Sister, she’s so confident and knows her style! The driver was also kind enough to play our favourite songs so we had our own karaoke the whole time. Then we had lunch at Coco Lounge.

Everything on the food menu looked appetizing which made it difficult to choose. But you can be sure I ate right from appetizer to the main course to dessert. We had an inspiring conversation where she told me how important it was to know who you are and sticking to that regardless of talent or popularity, especially in an industry like hers. We’re a sistahood full of diversity, which is awesome! There are lots of things that y’all said are not your thing, but the one thing that kept coming up was smoking! That’s so great because we’re all about being bold enough to say ‘NO’ to the things that don’t help us. Check out why it’s so much cooler to turn down that cigarette or shisha! Your mind go bust!
We all know that smoking is bad for our lungs and risks causing cancer. But what about other physical effects? Smoking leaves you with darkened lips, pale skin and that lingering smell! Gosh! Ain’t nobody got time for that! And hey, the boys tell us they hate it too, it’s sooo unattractive. Next time somebody offers you a cigarette or shisha, remember you’re already slaying without that in your life.
Us SKY Girls are not about that yawa life! We like to look good and feel good and want to make the most of this amazing life! Each time you smoke shisha or cigarettes, you cut down your expected life span by 11 minutes. And because of all the chemicals in them they are addictive - once you’ve had one, you will have another and so on. Slowly, you will be with no life! How sad? While the tobacco companies only get richer. So the best thing is to never try it. Or if you’ve tried it before, to never have another.

It’s always one of those days when some girls seem to get lots of attention because of the kind of gifts they received and it was possibly a tough time for others. If you are not into the whole Val’s Day thing, then you might not have been so stoked about it, while others were so hyped at the thought of spending a romantic date with their boyfriend. But whichever ca mp you fell in, you can choose to look at it going forward as a good opportunity to make the day your own kind of special! If you were boyfriend-less, it might’ve sucked to watch your lovesick classmates receive the big ha mpers and chocolates and flowers. But hey sis, forgerrit, you’re awesome whether you’re single or not! Having a boyfriend shouldn’t define us, so we don’t need to couple up just for the sake of “having someone”.

SKY 1. It’s great to have you! So can we know more about the famous Kidi? Kidi is just an ordinary guy who just knows how to sing. I am also a very shy boy but most people don’t believe that. I just like to be in my corner and avoid trouble 2. What inspires you to reach for more? The fact that I am human. Humans are never satisfied. You can pray for something and put in the hard work, and when you get it for a while, you realize that you need more. My family also inspires me too. I want to give every one of them the best life they deserve.

I’m a shy guy, so someone who talks a lot isn’t personally for me. I like honest girls who take your feelings into consideration when telling you something, because that’s how I am so I want somebody who is like that too. A God-fearing girl and spontaneous.
