James Harpham has composed film scores since the 60s but first scored a silent film 5 years ago when Corsham Festival commissioned a score for ‘A Girl in Every Port’. Since then 23 further performances nationwide have followed. Each score uses musical quotations from popular and classical music composed in or before the silent film era, about 90 such quotations per film. This technique dramatically helps the synchronisation, humour and variety of the film’s music. Harry Langdon has an appealing “babyface” - hence the tune appearing at the beginning and end of the film.....
