I've programmed many languages and was forced to learn PowerShell from scratch on a high pressure project. Experience has taught me to learn the basics, like the intent and model of the language before just googling individual statements. That worked well for me. I read several chapters from this book in sequence and was ready to program. PowerShell specifically is a basic language then you draw on the .NET framework, which I'm already familiar with, and other components like MSSQL or WMIC or ODBC (really easy to talk with PostgreSQL, like query results into a .NET datatable in PS script). In summary this book gave me the foundation I needed to become very productive in a few hours. Without the book my learning curve was flatter and would have taken me more time in the long run.
