Perth preview

Saturday 13 February BY JOSH RODDER Track is a Good (3) as of Friday morning, penetrometer is 6.2 (Perth measurements are different from those in the Eastern States, because of a different sand-based track). The rail moves into the 9m position, after being out at 12m with the cutaway in position midweek, and at 6m last Saturday. The Ascot track has raced extremely well this season with all horses getting their winning opportunity, however during the summer months it is especially important to be in the zone – there is a three-length winning zone on the point of the bend at Ascot, based on the tempo of the race. If you’re outside that zone it is very difficult to win. According to track manager Gordon Menzies they have put plenty of water on the surface and the track has handled the wear/tear for the season extremely well. Saturday: Sunny. Min 18, Max 33 RACE 1 – THE PINK ROYAL FLUSH PLATE, [2YO], [OPEN], 1000M, 3:30PM [EDST] Nona me Cit y ( 1) was very impressive winning when dropping back to midweek grade last start. Had previously provided a serious challenge to subsequent Magic Millions winner Time To Climb at Ascot in this grade. It looks like he will take a spot in a stalking position outside the lead and from there is clearly the horse to beat. Big watch on the Lou Luciani-trained filly Deemed Price less (4) making her debut. This Anabaa filly is out of Karrakatta Plate winner Born Priceless and her short-course Belmont trial win on Monday says she is ready to go first-up. (1) Noname Cit y will be short but is the horse to beat. (4) Deemed Pr iceless the value and worth a save. Include (6) Oh Hal o, ( 3) Celebrati on Gir l and (7) Sugar Fix in wider multiples. RACE 2 – PINK’S CLEAN GETAWAY HANDICAP, [3YO+], [62-74] 2200M, 4:10PM [EDST] Quite confident about the chances of lightly raced mare Galax y Queen (7) , who is a promising staying mare. The full sister to

gifted stablemate Star Encounter is still on an upward spiral after only three runs this time in, and will be improved by her first run at 2200 metres last start. Blinkers off, she was on top of the speed and still did not relax entirely, however she dug deep to score. There looks to be very little natural speed, so she can dominate again on pace. The best value is N ig ht At The Opera (8), who had no luck behind Galaxy Queen last time and William Pike takes over here. Bet with confidence on (7) Galaxy Queen with (8) Ni ght At The Opera worth a save at odds. Include (1 ) Vo lcan ic Causeway, ( 6) Me ltdo wn, (2) Nei ge, (3) Casual Life and ( 4) Sava ge W olf in exotic bet types. RACE 3 – PINK BUG HANDICAP, [3YO+], [74-86], 1600M, 4:50PM [EST] I believe Ne ll ie G ot There (1) has a realistic chance of toppling the in-form favourite C or onate ( 3). The former Queenslander has been thereabouts in good company since landing in WA and I was really taken by his last run in the Listed Detonator Stakes. The blinkers went on, he trailed a fast speed, was left a sitting shot, but was brave to the line, missing by a short neck and a short neck. He can control the race and with the claim for in-form apprentice Jarrad Noske he can pinch this. Coronate is flying! Completed a hat-trick in a Bunbury feature last start and again from a nice barrier will get every chance. Happy to back (1) Ne ll ie G ot There and to save on (3 ) C or onate. Include (2 ) Rock My Pa g o, ( 6) Caller One, (4) Truckin Tobie, (9 ) Ins urgenc y and (5) Changi ng Lanes in multiple bet types.

RACE 4 – PINK’S CLEAN AIR HANDICAP, [3YO], [OPEN 60+], 1200M, 5:30PM [EDST] Excited about the return of one of the most promising young horses in the state, Sir Hall owe ll (1). He clashes with promising galloper M oran t (6) who was enormous when resuming. Sir Hallowell resumes without the benefit of a trial, however his trainer David Harrison will have him forward enough to win, which will then dictate whether the camp heads to Sydney or remains home for the Ascot Autumn

Carnival riches. Sir Halliwell is a very good horse who simply blew away quality opposition first up last September in his much-anticipated comeback (with the blinkers on). Morant was seen attacking the line first-up and just missed, with the run under his belt and, Pike up, he is the danger. Bet with confidence on (1) Sir Ha ll owel l and take the quinella with ( 6) M orant. Include (5) Fr omm, (8) Di mitr ius, ( 7) Ro mida and (3) Yabi gorse in wider bet types.

QUADDIE FIRST LEG RACE 5 – PINK HYGIENE SOLUTIONS HANDICAP, [3YO+], [68-80], 1100M, 6:05PM [EDST] Watch the clock! Dar nti me (2 ) is one of the fastest short-course speedsters in the state and was scratched last week to be saved for this. Tongue-tie went on, she trailed a frenetic speed last time and went on to record a strong win. Finds the lead easily here for promising apprentice Andrew Castle and is clearly the horse to beat. (1) Darnt ime is one of the better bets on the card and bet accordingly. Include (3) Given Visi on , (5 ) C lassofher own, (1 ) Saffron Fire, (4) Jean, (7) Bl uff Po int and (9 ) Metal Flake in multiple bet types.

QUADDIE SECOND LEG RACE 6 – PINK INNOVATION HANDICAP, [3YO+], [68-80], 1400M, 6:40PM [EDST] Rising star Hear t Ache (4) began this campaign a maiden and has since made it four from four at Ascot. Big win last Saturday when she was forced to make a bid for victory early. This is a race devoid of speed and pressure so she will settle not far away from the likely leader Del ta Bay ( 1) in the run and from there is the horse to beat. Delta Bay is ready to win and will give backers an enormous sight. Back (4 ) Heart Ache with a small save on ( 1) Delta Bay, who will dictate from the front. Include (2) B lack Habit (in for big prep), (10 ) Dante’s Alert, (8) Last Curtain, (7) Isla nd In The Sun, (11) Real H on our and (5) Lexic on Go ld in exotic bet types.

RACE 7 - PINK METALSKIN HANDICAP, [3YO+], [OPEN 80+], 1400M, 7:20PM [EDST] Destin o ( 11) has a lot of quality about him and judging on his two runs back from a spell looks to be back near his best form. Jason Brown rolled him to the front with a fast beginning last time and after doing some work, he found plenty over the final stages to prevail. Pike takes over and he will get a sweet run on the speed again. Hard to toss! Big watch on D oy oudare (1), who is fresh and will be rattling late. His last fresh run was a close-up fifth in the Group 3 Asian Beau and he has a touch of class.

Race 2, No. 7 Galaxy Queen

Back ( 11) Desti no and save on (1) Doyoudare. (2 ) Beat The St or m will not be far away. Include ( 6) G old tow n, (5) Carb ineer, (13) Western C oup, (3) Forest F rolic, (4 ) Nob le Steed, (8) Kin g Of The Sta lls and (12) Referees in wider bet types.

QUADDIE FOURTH LEG RACE 8 – PINK NO-TOUCH HANDICAP, [6274], [3YO+], 1200M, 7:59PM [EDST] Looking for some value in the final event of the day. Predicting a big campaign ahead for talented Danetime four-year-old Taxtime ( 9). Impressed recently in a Lark Hill trial and last time took the scalp of high-class performer Kasabian. Good fresh record includes a first-up second to Emteevee (4) last time in at Belmont. Worth a gamble at good each-way odds. Emteevee is again the main danger despite an awkward draw. Look forward to seeing Campbell McCallum allowing this horse to find his feet and find the line. Each-way on (9) Taxtime and save on (4) Emteevee. (8) Never F or go tten and (2) Taharka both have winning claims. Include (12) C ostl y Call , (3 ) Dane Com m odore, (7) Fina lly Ch ina, (10) Verscene, ( 13) Venerat ion, ( 6) Apache Mak and ( 5) St or m Cl osure in multiples.
