Ascot Saturday Perth Racing Preview BY JOSH RODDER Track is a Good (3) as of Thursday morning, penetrometer is 6.2 (Perth measurements are different from those in the Eastern States, because of a different sand-based track). The rail moves back to the true (as it was last Saturday), from 15m with 12m cutaway midweek. Last weekend the track was dynamite on the rails for those on pace, with barrier draws playing a big part. Race tempo will again play a big part. SATURDAY: SUNNY. MIN 12

MAX 24

Race 1- Westspeed 2YO Plate, [2YO], [Open], 1000m, 2:30pm [EST] NO 14 THE BOGAN ROSE This is one of the most difficult two-year-old races I have encountered. I like a little eachway gamble on The Bogan Rose, the Ben Pearce-trained daughter of Balestrini. Has always displayed ability on the trial track and forget her debut when posted, wide, no cover and not knocked around. Trials this time in excellent and will be suited in a high pressure 1000 metres on resumption. Eachway!. PLUS: Save on (2) Hot Tamale who will work across, lead and take catching. Pure 1000-metre speed horse who will be suited with the early on-pace pattern. Fluky chance at big odds (6) Joesready, blinkers on at debut and trials very sneaky. The value!

FOR EXOTICS: (13) Scenic Park nice trial form, (11) Ima Citinpretty, (1) Noname City, (10) Wild West Willy and (5) Eddy The Eagle.

Race 2 Westspeed 3YO Hcp, [3YO], [Open 60+] 1200m, 3:10pm [EST] NO 8 VALOURA Talented filly who has the necessary upside to return to the winner’s stall here. The Danny Morton-trained daughter of Exceed And Excel was a big winner at her Ascot debut, when three wide, no cover and still

fought hard to share the prize with subsequent Saturday winner Peach Tree. Three wide and raced a little flat last start and from a nice draw, will be tucked away and saved for a late burst! PLUS: Smart filly (3) Comparison is worth a save. She gets the same run she received last time when a strong winner over Sacred Crown, and that form ties in well with the majority of this field.

FOR EXOTICS: (5) Regal Miss, (4) Midnight Touch, (6) Romida, (1) Regol Street and (2) Don'trocktheboat.

Race 3 - Schweppervesence Hcp, [3YO+], [Open 86+], 2200m, 3:50pm [EST] NO 6 LA SOEUR NOIR Looks to have returned to racing for her new stable in career-best form and she has a big preparation ahead, leading into the looming Belmont winter racing season. Great ride helped snare the prize last week. Further improved and has solid back-up results. Will be strong on the line! PLUS: Save on (1) Doyoudare who is flying and his preparation just right leading into the 2200 metres at this stage of his campaign. Well ridden to score last time and will get a similar run from Kyra Yuill again.

FOR EXOTICS: (7) Money Exchange, (2) Calico Blue, (3) Bodgie Business and (5) Impact Rating.

Race 4 - Agrum Collection Hcp, [3YO+], [68-80, 1600m, 4:30pm [EST] NO 3 BLACK HABIT Handy mare bursting to win a race and looks superbly placed to do so. Put the writing on the wall first-up, and bar plates were subsequently added to her gear. Looked the winner last time, when outstayed by Doyoudare which is good form for a race likes this. Back from 1800 metres to 1600 metres is ideal. PLUS: Winning chances to (5) Gamroy who is the best horse in the race but not suited drawn in and had no luck when well backed first-up. (4) China Bay has been

excellent at his four runs back from a lengthy break and drawn well up to 1600 metres.

FOR EXOTICS: (1) Goldtown, (6) Pearler and (7) Forty Days.

QUADDIE FIRST LEG Race 5 perthracing.com.au Hcp, [3YO+], [74-86], 1100m, 5:05pm [EST] NO 2 WERD Is simply flying since being ridden for speed. Fast win here last start when he broke his rivals’ hearts from the front. Drawn to lead and will run the quick sectionals to hurt the chasing pack. One of the better bets on the card! PLUS: (3) Jean is worth a save at value. No luck last start and when ridden quietly off a hot speed, look out!

FOR EXOTICS: (9) Em Gee Brown and (8) Coiled Spring have trialled really well! (7) Secret Courier and (10) Kenile can place at odds.

QUADDIE SECOND LEG Race 6 - Matchmaker Classic, [3YO+ Fillies & Mares], [Listed], [Open75+], 1400m, 5:40pm [EST] NO 10 JEVERRE Classy mare resuming and has the necessary turn of speed to make things interesting in this mare’s feature. Good fresh record and better results when drawn out. No trial form but in good first-up yard and has always promised to win one of these races. Eachway value. PLUS: (1) Moccasin Bend has had a forgetful time of late. Is the class runner and if she brings her A-game she wins, so don’t let her under your guard. At least have something small on her.

FOR EXOTICS: (2) Dance Across, (13) Scenic Fair, (11) Peach Tree, (9) Highest Honour, (3) Island In The Sun and (4) Flight Path.

QUADDIE THIRD LEG Race 7 - Schweppes WATC Derby, [3YO], [Group 1], 2400m, 6:20pm [EST]

QUADDIE (FOR $0.50)

NO 2 BRIDGESTONE

2,3/1,2,10,13/2,5/5,6 $16

This one of the great Derby battles and will be a pleasure to watch. I believe Bridgestone is the right horse to win a derby, however on face value he was disappointing last week, when he looked the winner, but his run ended. There were genuine reasons for this – niggling stone bruise which required a bar plate, a 3YO with 58kg vs older horses, three weeks between runs, and up to 2200 metres. Blew hard post-race and seven days into the Derby he should be ready to go. Really like this horse and his best wins this!

2/1,2,10,13/2,5/6 $4

PLUS: (5) Brother Mak is the danger. He has had a faultless campaign aimed towards the Derby and his Melvista win was powerful. A high grade stayer in the making and is the saving bet.

FOR EXOTICS: (13) Impressive Jeuney, (1) God Has Spoken, (8) Campobello, (4) Zentrate, (7) Four Floors, (3) Chartreux and (10) Bag Of Nails.

QUADDIE FOURTH LEG Race 8 - Pepsi Handicap, [62-74], [3YO+], 1800m, 7:00pm [EST] NO 5 MANILA I SCREAM Eye-catching performance second-up here behind Chin Chin, when raced back, held-up early in the straight and hit the line like she was ready to win. The rise to 1800 metres and the predicted high front end pressure will play right into her hands. Each-way all day! PLUS: Save on (6) Chin Chin who was ridden to suit second-up here last start. Based on his trial at the beginning of his preparation, it was clear he was set for a profitable campaign of racing. Drawn well and he will be strong late.

FOR EXOTICS: (3) Last Curtain, (9) Leica Scene, (10) I Am Lucky, (11) Central Park, (13) Night At The Opera and (7) Tenpin.

BEST BETS Race 5, No 2 Werd Race 8, No 5 Manila I Scream

VALUE BETS Race 6, No 10 Jeverre (each way)
