BORACAY BEAT BEST RESORT ON THE BEST ISLAND IN THE WORLD Boracay island is constantly named one of the best islands in the world. “Voted the world’s top island in our 2017 Reader’s Choice Awards, this itty-bitty speck (just under four square miles) in the western Philippines is as close to a tropical idyll as you’ll find in Southeast Asia, with gentle coastlines and Instagram-
worthy sunsets,” as described by Conde Nast Traveler. Boracay was also part of the Top Islands in the World by Travel + Leisure. Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort & Spa is also one of Conde Nast Traveler’s Top Resorts in Asia and DestinAsian magazine’s Best Hotel in the Philippines in 2017.
FINDING BORACAY Getting to Boracay has become faster and more convenient with not only one, but two airports that service the island. Most recently, Caticlan Airport has opened a wider and longer runway to accommodate bigger planes like the Airbus A320, increasing air traffic to the famed island destination. From Caticlan, it only takes approximately 20 minutes to get to Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort & Spa via speedboat – the only one in Boracay that takes guests straight to the resort! Caticlan Airport also services night operations, with the last flight departing as late as 8:45pm via Cebu Pacific. Another is the Kalibo International Airport, currently servicing both domestic and international flights from China, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan. THE MAN BEHIND THE FUN
When it comes to creating experiences at the resort, SJ Añonuevo, the Director of Sports & Recreation, makes it happen.
“In a nutshell, I ensure that every guest is having fun at the resort,” SJ explains about his role. Along with a team of energetic and fun-loving individuals, SJ makes sure that all guests create memorable experiences through different activities. Another innovation SJ recently spearheaded is the resort’s new teambuilding packages, aptly called Collabor8. “We wanted to further enhance the experience of our MICE groups through team-forming activities that would align with the company’s objectives,” SJ explains. “It’s also a fun opportunity for colleagues to bond outside the office.”
CALL OF NATURE Crisanta Danan, or Cris for short, is the resort’s Service Leader for Corporate Social Responsibility. “I ensure that the resort takes care of nature, marine life and community in which we operate,” Cris explains about her job at ShangriLa Boracay. Through the years, Cris has made tremendous efforts to help Shangri-La Boracay’s Sustainability initiatives. “I love to see the smiles of the children and the local residents whenever we drive community-based projects,” Cris shares about her job. “I also look after the marine sanctuary. I can’t survive
a week without going underwater to check on the resort’s giant clams and coral nurseries!” Cris also heads the Snorkeling Safari activity for guests every Tuesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. “Boracay is more than the white sand, there’s even much more to see beneath the water’s surface,” she says.
