getting dressed which will come in handy sooner than you think as well. The summer’s junk food diet is over so we decided to go healthy with a bite from Toss & Roll.
Did you think our summer edition was epic because we went ‘three covers, three models?’ Well we have one model who does
Shorts were definitely in, so we got a designer who makes some wicked shorts. We’ve included a guide for those who have trouble
After that we tried to figure out WTF happened in August, but that case was a hard one to crack. Let’s see if you can.

This summer was THE summer. We’ve had countless hours of fun. But all good things must come to an end, so this is where we part ways with the fun and frolic of the season. There were many high points and we can’t seem to pick a favourite moment from it all as there were too many. The independence and emancipation celebrations that brought a sea of black, green and gold to the streets of our island were felt by all. They were entertaining as usual. Adults and children alike seemed to have enjoyed the festivities. Among the summer’s best included Reggae Sumfest, Dream Week and SPF Weekend that had Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios respectively buzzing with activity. There were countless parties and pars, and we were there to witness it all. SLEEK beauties, hot bods, and good vibes, what more could one ask for? Then in the midst of all the celebrating and partying, Bolt and company were in Moscow giving us more reason to celebrate and cricket was in full swing at Sabina Park. MEDALS AND SIXES make a perfect 6 SLEEK | Summer Review Issue
combination right? On the funnier side to the summer stood ROSIE who shot to overnight popularity in a wheel of the neck. And on the sadder side stood Asafa and company in the middle of a drug test scandal. Debate was not absent as VYBZ KARTEL’S MURDER CASE was dropped and Queen Ifrica’s Grand Gala statements garnered national interest and were hot topics on the lips of many. Don’t forget that we took over the BET Awards as Beenie Man, Elephant Man, Dawn Penn and Chaka Demus and Pliers brought reggae and dancehall to the stage and had everyone out their seats. And of course, our ‘three-cover’ summer issue had heads everywhere turning. Only SLEEK! The summer was awesome, and full of good times, but tiring. We worked hard to get you this edition of the magazine. We’re sure you had a blast too so let’s hope next year will be even better.

BE CONFIDENT Confidence is a key fashion accessory that can’t be bought in any store or boutique. Be sure to wear what makes you sexy, yet chic.
NEVER SPEND MORE THAN YOUR EARN Buying an out of your financial reach outfit is never worth a not-so-glam identification picture of yourself in the newspaper for non payment of loans. Never.
ROCK COLOURS & PRINTS
NOT WEARING YOUR SIZE
We’re not telling anyone to be as yellow as Big Bird at Fiction Nightclub & Lounge, but you can’t go wrong with wearing bright colours in a subtle manner that still separates you from the crowd. Both solids and strips do the trick.
Outside of the rare case of wearing a close-fitting pair of shoes, don’t trick yourself into thinking that you’re a certain size if you’re not. Don’t attempt to wear an outfit that isn’t built for your body type. It does neither you, nor the outfit designer
SACRIFICE A LITTLE Maybe your 100 likes dress on our Facebook Page is only missing five pounds less. Maybe the perfect outfit might require wearing a pair of shoes that isn’t as comfy as your favourite crocs. The point is, your best look may take a little bit of sacrifice, but always remember, “No pain, no gain.”

any justice.
YOUR OUTFIT ISN’T RAP LYRICS Your dress doesn’t have to rhyme with your bag, earrings, heels, etc. Give yourself a break by complimenting colours and not swallow yourself in one.
1. WHEN DID YOU REALISE YOU WANTED TO BECOME A FASHION DESIGNER? I was born in a home filled with industrial sewing machines and tons of fabric. My great grandmother, grandmother and mother are all fashion designers. I began to develop the passion around age 15. My mom has been designing for over 40 years. She has sewn for the past Prime Minister’s wife Lorna Golding . My mom inspires me a lot as she makes everything she wears. But I would say I want to branch off more into fashion styling than fashion designing . 2. WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE DESIGNERS? Some of my favourite designers are Gianni Versace , Chanel , Rebecca Minkoff and Diane Von Furstenberg 3. WHAT MATTERS TO YOU MOST AS A FASHION DESIGNER? As a designer self presentation matters the most to me. I believe in order to sell your brand you must be able to sell yourself which entails proper self presentation . 4. THE WORST FASHION FAD EVER IS? I personally think “Crocs” 5. WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE ABOUT DESIGNING CLOTHES? There is nothing I dislike about designing because it’s my passion 6. WHAT OTHER ASPECTS OF THE FASHION INDUSTRY ARE YOU INVOLVED IN? Yes , I am also a fashion stylist , fashion merchandiser and also practice a little makeup artistry. I have a lot of clients that I shop for and style on a one on one basis, both locally and internationally .

3. WHERE WOULD YOU GO FOR YOUR DREAM DATE? AND WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Believe it or not I’m a simple girl. But since we’re talking “dream date”, I wouldn’t mind something adventurous and out of the norm. I love sports and I keep active, most of the time, so something outdoors to leave a lasting memory would be dreamy.

WTF happened? Glad bags burst when Rosie an har fambily went looking for the contracta but ended up with a viral video instead. BIG UPS TO ROSIE AND HER QUEEN’S HENGLISH! And after we were ‘bigged up’ as being the world’s third coolest people (how Singapore and Brazili fi beat wi?), it was a irie feeling that ran through our bones. No problem mon! Remember Dave in the VW ad? BOLT AND THE POCKET ROCKET had everyone at the edge of their seats from all the way in Moscow as they gave us yet another stellar World Championships performance. Every Jamaican must did think seh dem fast too. At least I did! That irie feeling was short-lived however as Minister Hanna came saw and conquered TopTensWorld list of the worst politicians in the world for the year 2013. She placed all the way at 4th! LIKKLE MOST SHE GET A BRONZE MEDAL! How embarrassing was that? Some might argue the list is bogus or not credible, but how did she even end up being considered for such a list? Just when we thought nothing else could go wrong in August, along came Miley Cyrus to the MTV Video Music Awards. Move over Lady Gaga! Her raunchy, sexed-up routine of twerking and pelvic thrusting had eyes wide open like WTF! It was certainly a sight to behold. Little Miley’s all grown up. Wi likke but wi tallawah they say. It seems so after all. I still 22 SLEEK | Summer Review Issue don’t know WTF happened ?
1. WHY’D YOU OPT TO GO THE HEALTH FOOD ROUTE?
Jamaicans are becoming increasingly conscious of the nutritional value of the foods they consume and are embracing the eat clean, eat local concept. Our motto is eat right, live better because our aim is to provide a fresh and healthier alternative to lunch. We want persons to lead healthier and longer lives and so we are playing our part by offering meals that help achieve this objective.
2. WHAT’S THE SECRET INGREDIENTS AND PREPARATION TECHNIQUES BEHIND TOSS & ROLL?
Customers hand pick from our wide variety of fresh ingredients to create their very own meals. We provide several proteins options such as chicken, fish, shrimp and turkey bacon. We are big supporters of the Eat Local movement and so all our vegetables are sourced from our local farmers and hand cut daily to be served to our customers.
24 SLEEK | Summer Review Issue
In addition, we strive to delight our customers by providing exceptional customer service, speedy delivery and maintaining the quality of our meals.
3. WHAT’S THE BEST ITEMS ON THE MENU? WHY’S THAT?
One of our biggest sellers is our signature green tea cooler which leaves our customers feeling refreshed and energized. The green tea cooler contains green tea and is sweetened with strawberries instead of artificial sugars. The exclusion of artificial sugars makes this drink very healthy and keeps it low on calories also! Another big seller is the pack value where a small salad is paired with a small wrap. With this menu item, customers pay a discounted price for these 2 wholesome items.
4. HOW’S BUSINESS SINCE OPENING YOUR DOORS?
Since we began operations on May 10 2013, we have had a steadily growing number of customers. We have several regulars who are keen on eating healthy and we continue to welcome new customers who are delighted to have a tasty healthy lunch with us. Looking into
the near future we are currently embarking on several strategic initiatives to continue to grow our brand and become a permanent fixture in the health and nutrition circles in Jamaica.
5. HOW DID YOU DEVELOP THE CONCEPT FOR TOSS AND ROLL?
The concept for Toss & Roll started with my sister in law Shanna Lee Bennett (one of the owners) who wanted to provide healthier breakfast and lunch options to a few corporate companies in New Kingston and Liguanea. My wife Keisha and I would assist her with sales and also give advice on the strategy for her business. Shanna Lee recently migrated but she’s still a part of our operations giving advice on menu planning and new items we plan to add in the future. Also we wanted to provide meal options that were healthy but not necessarily vegetarian. We wanted to get away from
traditional vegetarian meals and simply provide tasty low calorie, low fat and high protein meals to our customers. We are very big on freshness and so we prepare our ingredients daily to ensure our customers get the freshest healthiest meal possible.

fter decades of being known as the Reggae Capital of the world, Jamaica can now make the argument that the nation is now the Sporting Mecca of the Caribbean. The recently concluded IAAF 2013 World Champions cemented Jamaica’s bragging rights as the region’s leader in sports, as the country finished third in the world, netting in six Gold and two Silver medals, along with a Bronze medal. This summer, an overlooked accomplishment by Jamaica in the sporting arena, was that in this year’s IAAF World Youth Championship, Jamaica became the smallest country in history to be the overall medal winner, winning a historic six gold medals and two bronze medals.
League. Not to be left out from the list, our Reggae Boyz is currently the only Caribbean team that’s present in the CONCACAF region final round of World Cup Qualifiers. Squash player Chris Binnie, did the nation proud, by becoming the only four-time male winner in the Caribbean Area Squash Association’s Senior Championship. SLEEK salutes our nation’s athletes on their world-dominating run in a diverse range of sports and becoming proud Ambassadors of our island nation on the world stage.
In addition to triumphs in athletics, the Jamaica Tallawahs reigned supreme in cricket, by winning the inaugural Limacol Caribbean Premier
