Tina recently celebrated her first anniversary with her husband, personal trainer, Paul Chase whom she met at a fitness boot camp. Having been fitted with a gastric band, she has lost 7 stone and 4lbs and is on a personal mission to slim down to just 7 stone. She says that the pressures on being thin in show business have not affected her. “I am 5ft 1 and was always overweight. I was always cast as the Roseanne Barr, I have always played fat birds. I have been in Brookside, 12 films, the National Theatre and Shameless. I have been lucky to act alongside the greats such as Ricky Tomlinson and Pete Postlethwaite but it was never about me feeling pressure to be thin. The bottom line is that if you overeat you get fat. There is no other excuse. And being bi polar was a great excuse for me to have my head stuck in the biscuit tin. Now, for the first time in my life, I want to be 7 stones, to be thin in myself and also next year I want a baby, I am having tests for IVF and I would give it all up now if I could have a baby.”

A
ctor, poet, writer and DJ CRAIG CHARLES is a very busy man who took time out of his hectic schedule to chat to us about his forthcoming Djing set at Liverpool Fashion week next month.
What are you looking forward to the most about liverpool Fashion Week? I like clothes, I like to look snappy and I like well made clothes so I will be checking out all the new styles on the catwalk. But if I am perfectly honest, the thing I am looking forward to the most is my gig. I am very selfish and I love Djings and playing my music. I love my music, I love the hip vivbe and it goes really well with the fashion element. I can’t wait for people to dance to what I play. Did you think Red Dwarf would ever become the cult status that it has achieved? Never. We thought it was a quaint little BBC comedy that we would do a series or two and then move on. I can’t believe it was 25 years ago! Last week I was at a Red Dwarf Convention and there were 10- and 11 year old kids living Red Dwarf and I was thinking,“You weren’t even born when I was in it.” Clearly the mums and dads have passed on their love of the programme. Tell us about the news series of Red Dwarf. It’s going to relight the fire. We’re filming six half hour episodes, it will be the same costumes and some new ones. Each episode will be a stand alone with their own story rather than a continuation of stories through the series. We’ll be travelling through space having a laugh.
was groundbreaking stuff. And I have to pinch myself when I think I am in Corrie, to be in part of a national institution. I am incredibly lucky, I know that, I love my job and my hobby of Djing, I love everything, my house, my kids and my lovely wife. I am a very lucky man. Do you want your children to follow in your footsteps? I will encourage my children to be whatever they want to be. My son is a brilliant musician, he is 23 and brilliant . He is writing his first album now. My two daughters are very academic… I just want them to be happy. What is it like to be on the set of Coronation Street. Not a day goes by when I am not set and I have to say to myself,“I’m in Corrie.” This is very special and I have made a lot of friend, in particular Simon Gregson is my best mate. Corrie is something I watched as a kid, I never dreamt that I would actually be in it. Do you hang out with the cast? Yes we are all very close and it’s easier to go out as a crowd and get gawped at collectively. Then if someone gets drunk and falls over your snapped together and you help each other out,
What are you working on now? I feel very lucky to be working. I’ve got Corrie, Red Dwarf and I am Djing every weekend. I’m trying to get sacked but no one will let me go. But I appreciate it, I really do. I’ve been working a long time, I started in TV when I was 17 and I’m 47 now. That’s 30 years of being on TV and still going, I am very lucky. Some people don’t last a series. Do you like being recognised on the street? It’s mixed blessings really then it’s nice for people to come up and chat to you but then mobile phone cameras are the bane of my life. I hate it when I am having dinner in a restaurant with my wife and I turn round and people are taking pictures. I hate that. Would you ever star in a reality TV show? Never. I am an actor and I have trained for this. It is another bain of my life when someone goes on a reality TV show and the next minute they have a part in Eastenders or something. You just need to goon TV for five minutes, humiliate yourself and get a series.
8
What is your proudest achievement? My three children without a doubt. I am proud of lots of things though, I am proud of the work I do, I like doing the stuff I am doing, I like the programmes I made such as Robot Wars, that
How is our autobiography coming along? Well I have written it but it’s not been published. My agent says I can’t because it is too hardcore and rock the boat. It’s something to put out later when everyone’s dead. What’s the best advice you have been given? My dad said,“Live on your potential before your 30 and live on your achievement afterwards.” It gives you good scope to make mistakes and learn from them. What are your plans for the future? Well I am doing the festival circuit with my music, I am doing a lot on the radio- I love the radio- I am doing a Craig Charles no sleep til breakfast 12 hour gig, then I leave Corrie in a huge storyline, go and film Red Dwarf and come back to Corrie.
What do you spend your money on? I don’t spend my money, my wife does! She buys most of my clothes. To be honest my biggest expense are the kids school fees. They go to a very good school.

Anything else we should know about? I have written some stories called Scary Fairy for children, it’s nursery rhythms with snot, blood and gore all told by little fairies. I am just getting it illustrated at the moment and in talks with a TV company to get it made into a cartoon series.

Butterfly brings fashionable plus size clothing online to the british high street...
Beth, 27 from Bootle, Merseyside trained in Visual Merchandising and worked for Lewis's.She said, “I loved it at Lewis’s, I have always had an eye for fashion and loved merchandising the clothes. Shopping with friends, I witnessed the lack of fashionable plus size clothing available. After listening to friends feedback of how they wished fashionable clothing did not stop at a size 16, I decided to try my best to change this!” “Except for Evans there is nothing on the high street for these women. So I did my research and bought stock from all over the world." Beth eventually plans to design her own styles,“I have lots of ideas, “she says, “There is so much scope for expansion of my business. I have my own design ideas which I am developing, I am also currently sourcing local dressmakers/designers who would like to work alongside butterfly and create their own fashion lines. I want to keep it all local, that's very important to me.” Beth studied at Sacred Heart High, Crosby and Hugh Baird College before landing a job in retail and she hasn't looked back since. A size 14 herself, she describes her styles as creative.“I like to mix things up,” she explains, “ I don't do high fashion labels as they don't seem to fit me right and are always made for people with small chest, I find. So I shop on the high street and accessorize. I love putting different looks together.”
Looking forward to her debut catwalk appearance at Liverpool Fashion Week, Beth says, “I am so excited. There's a huge buzz around the event and I can't wait. I am the first independent retailer in the region for women with proper curves and I am the first boutique in Liverpool to provide this service. Liverpool Fashion Week is fantastic for championing proper sized women. The average size in the UK is a 16 and if you go into a shop, all the 14s and 16s are sold out first. There's a reason for that.” "I live and breathe fashion, I love it. I can't wait to start work on my own designs." She added,“I hate the phrase plus size”. My boutique is for women with natural curves normal sized women really.“my boutique is for women with natural curves - normal size women!. Butterfly brings a new, exciting place for women to shop!.”

Glamour with Jennie Freedland
Head of Make up for, Liverpool Fashion Week and Lifestyle Monthly’s Beauty Editor
I
t's all go ready for the fabulousness of Liverpool Fashion Week and with A/W 2011 just around the corner (yes I know - sshhh!) we all need to know what to wear on our faces and how to follow the trends (well we already know what's going in the wardrobe), so this month I've decided to showcase some charts of what you can expect down the catwalk at fashion week with the help of Victoria Hooker of ProChart......... There has long been an absence of make-up from the last couple of seasons, however this year it's back with a bang with full on glamour that's got a twist. Nods are given to the siren like '40's, swinging '60's, jewel tones and dominatrix, there is a clear set of rules that makes it easy with double acts. THE trend to follow is a grown up, contemporary Marlene Dietrich inspired look with dewy skin, no eye liner - instead soft brown and golds blended away towards the brows with pared down lashes and a glossy cherry red lip that is pure 2011.......complete with matching nails as seen at Gucci, DVF and Ungaro. Chanel, Fendi and Zac Posen showed metallic eyes with layers of iridescent pigment using cream formulations so no messy fall outthink holographic and texture, flawless skin with lips being kept semi-matt as this is a lip AND eye look. AT Cavalli, D&G, and PPQ the '60's hit town with a winged glossy eye, nude lips and doe eyed lashes - think Leighton Meester or Reece Witherspoon. Brows were well and truly back on the scene with a squared off bold, almost boyish look seen at Burberry, Michael Kors and Prada - Keep your skin minimal with this look to stay on trend. And for those of us that thought we were all on trend, well it appears we've been wearing our blusher in the wrong place....... Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs showed us how to amend this however - blush is now worn low on the cheek to the jawline giving a more natural and womanly flush - top tip.... use a cream texture for a seamless finish. Also this month I was lucky enough to attend the Jacques Townhouse Launch and meet the so gorgeous Keisha Buchanon who is the face of Jacques cider. This is the first year in Liverpool, being already established in London. For those not in the know, the Townhouse is a girlie haven that's open for 10 days a year and you can have your make-up, hair, nails done; dress up and have your photo taken or even have a drink in the bar complete with lush cupcakes. You are treated to the most amazing of experiences with Mr. Flowers (the head butler) meeting you upon arrival and presenting you with the key to the bar!! Certainly look out for it next year as by the time we go to print it will unfortunately have finished, though I for one wish it would stay all year long! This is just a taste of what to expect to see on the catwalk so don't forget your tickets. For any further information on these or any other looks please email me (dibelleza@yahoo.co.uk) or Facebook me (Jennie MUA Freedland).

I
would like to extend my personal welcome to you all, or, as they say in Italy, benvenuto a tutti e tutte! As a fourth-generation Scottish Italian I am a great believer in the traditional Italian values of hospitality and enjoyment of the good things in life. It has always been my dream to bring some of these good things together in one place, and now I can share the dream with you! At Indulgence you can enjoy Franchitti’s Italian artisan ice cream, made to recipes brought from Italy by my great great-grandfather and passed on to me by my father Guerrino; you can also savour locally sourced food prepared fresh on the premises, a premium range of deli products, high quality coffee supplied by rijo42 (42 beans in every espresso!), and Thorntons, which need no introduction. We also have an extensive deli range including bread dippers, infused oils, bruschettas, compotes and tapenades. Our new serving plates, olive wood pestle and mortar and boards complement the deli range as well as making the ideal gift for any occasion.

CELEBRITY CHEF AIDEN BYRNE
said he is “coming home” with the launch of his third restaurant, The British Grill.
T
he Kirkby-born chef, who made his name as head chef at the Dorchester Grill, who incidentally at the tender age of 22 was the youngest chef to win the Michelin Star, has teamed up with Macdonald Hotels to launch his latest venture at the newly refurbished Craxton Wood Hotel. by Joy Lewis
I MANAGED TO CATCH UP WITH HIM ON HIS WAY INTO WORK;
16
Where did your interest in cooking stem from? I was really fortunate to fall in love with cooking while I was at school and it stuck with me ever since – that was a long time ago now mind! What made you choose Craxton Wood for your latest venture and why a British Grill? Craxton Wood is a bit of a sleeping giant, it was once "the" place to come. And I believe there is no reason why it shouldn't get back there. The reasoning for choosing a British Grill is because the phrase "Grill" appeals to a bigger market and it is the larger market that we are targeting, we think that good food should be available for everyone, all purses. What is it about The British Grill that makes you proud to put your name to it? That ones easy, the restaurant was designed by my lovely wife and I, so the style and the food has really got our stamp on it. The British Grill has all the true classics that customers recognise and feel comfortable with. If our customers feel comfortable and happy, we feel happy, and everyone’s a winner! What’s the atmosphere like at the British Grill? Well, It’s inevitable that a hotel restaurant will have the feeling of being formal. However our job is to break down any feelings of pompousness and welcome people into the hotel/restaurant with open arms and make our customers feel at ease, but at the same time giving them the best service we physically can, making each guest feel the most important in the room. I have been told you use a special grill? Yes, it’s called the Josper Grill, which is basically an indoor BBQ, that needs stoking up with fresh coals all day long. The flavour that it gives the British Beef and the whole stuffed sea bass can not be compared to food that has been cooked conventionally in an oven. What type of food can the diners expect? Of course, like with all of our restaurants, regionality is very important to us, we rely on local customers so it‘s only right that we support local businesses. The choice of foods varies quite a lot, but in a nut shell we are cooking Great British dishes the way they should be cooked, with pride and dignity. You are famous for British Classics made with a twist, where do you get your inspiration from? My style of cooking has evolved from working with some of the best chefs in the country and earning a Michelin Star twice myself in the past (so I would say my back ground is purely fine dinning) but owning The Church Green and The Collingwood I have learned to listen what people actually want to eat, so my love and desire to cook British classics has stemmed from this really. What is it about the British Grill that will make it stand out? Craxton Wood was once a serious family gathering and dining destination and that is something that I am working so hard to re-establish. We are not trying to reinvent the wheel here, we are simply trying to cook the dishes that people want but cook them correctly.

NEW SEASON, NEW STADIUM
I
f you live in the city or consider yourself a Scouser then chances are your chief sporting interest is football. Liverpudlians are, famously, aficionados of the beautiful game and many don’t see past Anfield or Goodison for their action. Yet nearby and sometimes overlooked is a whole world of Rugby League, the most physically demanding contact sport there is. It is played and televised across the globe but the game in England is dominated by teams from towns and cities along the M62 corridor and currently by an axis of three teams from the north west: St Helens, Wigan and Warrington. This year sees Liverpool’s near neighbour St Helens playing home matches at The Halton Stadium, home of Widnes, while a fabulous new ground is constructed in time for the 2012 season. St Helens has a long and glorious history but 2012 is a new beginning for them in a 21st century stadium worthy of a great club. The 18,000 capacity creation – now nearing completion on time and on budget - will provide fans with a brilliant spectator experience as well as becoming a great resource on non-match days for businesses and others to use for events of all shapes and sizes, from parties to conferences in the state-of-the-art surrounds of an iconic new venue. The famous red vee on the team’s white strip will remain, but for the coming season Saints will be boasting a new shirt sponsor in international Wirral brand Typhoo Tea. Despite its deserved reputation for toughness, Rugby League players are better behaved than in many other team sports. The complaints levelled at sometimes unsporting footballers are rarely levelled at the stars of League. Perhaps because of this
18
it attracts a higher percentage of family fans than football. The atmosphere at Rugby League matches is often electric. Consider this: the classic fixture, Saints vs Wigan, is the original officially sanctioned Derby. Forget Everton vs Liverpool. In 1780 the 12th Lord Derby gave his name to a brand new horserace in Epsom and a descendant would go on to give the same name to the Rugby League thriller. The current Lord Derby is a keen supporter of the club and often goes to the games. And his family’s historic seat, Knowsley Hall, is involved too, with Knowsley Safari Park a club sponsor. Stadium entertainment has been a mainstay of Rugby League for a long time, some of it appropriated from US sports and some of it appropriated by them: cheerleaders, mascots and pumping music are standard. And teams will often run out in a sea of dry ice. It’s stirring stuff, even for the neutral. And pricing is part of it too: Saints season tickets are now available for 2012 and family season tickets work out at less than £5 per person per game while for juniors it’s less than £2 per game and free for under 5s. Season ticket renewal prices are frozen for 2012 and 2013 and new purchases made before November 30 cost just £200 for adults.

ANGELA JAY Reaching out to the heart of the community....... Lifestyle Monthly welcomes Heart FM’s popular breakfast presenter as our regular columnist Cannot believe it is now September (where has the summer gone!)…….At the time of writing this JLS are still holding the crown at the top of the singles chart with their song that I just can’t get out of my head this morning ‘she makes me wanna’ (feat Dev). We actually had the boys on the show last week and managed to get one of their biggest fans from the North West and Wales on, Katie Hodson to ask them some questions, she was absolutely delighted, love her. JLS are busy boys at the mo and are recently confirmed as one of the acts appearing at the welsh capital’s Millennium stadium for the ‘Michael Forever’ tribute concert, you can register now for tickets (its lotto stylie like the Olympics were), online at michaelforevertribute.com on Oct 8th, this will be broadcast around the world in 2d and 3d in what has been described as a ‘unique celebration of the performer’s work to mark the 40th anniversary of his solo career’. Other acts confirmed so far are Christina Aquilera, Leona Lewis, Smokey Robinson, Cee Lo Green and JLS including members of the Jackson family.
Big month for movies, still a popular choice is Harry Potter, the final is still at the top of the movie charts ….and not suprising, when you have young girls, (my friend’s daughter who has already seen it six times!). I found it pretty dark, but a fantastic climax to what had has undoubtedly been the most successful movie franchise of all time, well done JK Rowling. Saw Horrible bosses at Cineworld last week, very funny if you want a laugh and if you hate your boss you will definitely be able to relate to it! Cowboys and Aliens with Daniel craig and Harrison ford is also a good watch and for the family Cars 2.
As you can tell I love my boy bands, so was very excited to also hear that The Wanted had such a good time in Chester last month that they decided to come back to the north west. They will be in Liverpool in February next year at the echo arena, tickets on sale now. From a boyband to a man band now-Take That. Saw them in Wembley- amazing. Although if I am honest, no need for all the swearing Robbie… lots of kids were watching. It was a bit like the Robbie show, and a bit of take that! Still fantastic night at Wembley, Michael Mcintyre seemed to enjoy it (he was sat only few seats away from me) ….also bumped into Kelly Brook who was showing of her toned stomach in a cropped top and jeans, I am only envious of her flat tummy, couldn’t stop staring! I am still working on mine! I have got a six pack, you have aswell…..according to my PT Emily at Hoole Hall we all do, I guess we just have to find it under the fat, or at least I do! Antigua for me is approaching and I am so looking forward to just lying on a beach doing nothing.
Loving the fact that there will be a toy story 4- yes tom hanks will provide the voice of Cowboy woody again, I cannot wait!
I tried that new Indian Barton Rouge on the canal next to Harkers in Chester the other night which has its very own champagne bar too! It was good and I loved the rose at the end of the meal too! Gutted to hear that Chicken tikka masala is no longer the UK’S favourite curry it has been replaced by the hotter Jalfrezi…………….i wonder if this is due to the large quantities of green chillis which are said to increase your metabolism therefore aiding weight loss! Yes I know curry’s are not the best for our waistline but when you think its got chillies in, it kinda makes it good for us right?!! Same scenario as us ordering a big mac and fries and oh a diet coke to go with that!! 28
Have you heard about this new kitchen gadget which has been invented? It could make you and I a master in the kitchen, (I need all the help I can get!). It’s called the SuperChef and has several pre-programmed functions, its described as the one-pot cooker- your thinking a slow cooker does that I know BUT this is better, apparently you can do a whole roast chicken in this, a pasta dish, steam fish and bake a cake!! The superChef can be programmed up to 24 hours in advance and if you still aren’t ready to tuck in, the gadget automatically switches to ‘keep warm’ mode when the food is ready. Sounds perfect for me.
At the moment I am loving: Loving the sales- got some awesome bargains ready for my holiday including a cream gorge Ted Baker bag!
Loving the idea that this new bra increases a woman’s bust by three cup sizes- its £22 british designed and called the Triple boost bra…right where can I get one?!
Not Loving: Not Loving the fact that us ladies apparently spend over £100,000 on cosmetics over a lifetime …..just think of how many pairs of shoes and bags we could get with that if we didn’t have to spend it on concealer to hide the bags under the eyes! Not loving the fact that this welsh lad is a grandad at the age of 29, I am 30 and I don’t have any kids yet, im not in any rush either but if I don’t hurry along il be old enough to be a great grandmother- now that is super scary! Not loving when in Debehams in the Trafford centre looking to buy Spanx- I pulled out the pair to have a nose only to find out they were an M & S used pair of skanky knickers yes someone had clearly stole a pair and put their old dirty ones back in the box- disgusting…..did I buy them my co-presenter Spence asked- Hell no I went to John Lewis!!

chilled out in ibiza with Charlotte woods
I
’m back from Ibiza! I’ve had an amazing time with the girls and I was certainly not ready to come home. It was lovely and hot in the days and the nightlife cant be beaten. We would sunbathe all day and head to the sunset strip most nights at Café Mambo. It’s most famous for having one of the best sunsets in the world and the whole area had a stunning vibe. One of my favourite nights was Amnesia were we saw Calvin Harris, Laidback Luke and Example. It was crazy busy and hot but the music made up for it with one great song after another. We just didn’t want to leave the dance floor. Another favourite night was at Ushuaia. It’s a hotel, which gets a lot of well known acts performing on stage around the gorgeous pool. I would love to stay at this hotel, it’s so beautiful. I absolutely loved the atmosphere here and we managed to get right up close to the front of the stage. We didn’t stop dancing the whole time, everybody was loving it as the sun set. It looked really cool. A day to remember was definitely our Pukka Up boat party. It was soo much fun, it had great music and some amazing views! You can’t beat dancing and drinking on a boat at with a beautiful sunset with your friends. My friends and I got access into the VIP area of a bar called ‘Blue Bar’. It was lovely with swing chairs and free massages. We splurged on Champagne and they treated us to some lovely free smoothie/vodka shots and fruit. It was a really gorgeous bar. I went into Manchester the weekend before Ibiza with a few friends. We ate at a lovely restaurant called ‘Bar on the Alley’. Great décor, service and food. I was feeling adventurous and tried Oysters for the first time. Never, again I don’t think they’re for me. My fajitas were yum though and so was the wine.
We then moved onto some cool bars but I could have stayed in the restaurant all night as there was live music on through into the night which was great. This past week I’ve really been into topping up on my chunky knits ready for the season change. If you still dare to bare then they look really cute at the moment with a nice pair of coloured denim shorts. Check out these great ones from Topshop and Miss Selfridge. They work perfect with the weather now as they are still quite light. The golden Miss Selfridge one hangs beautifully off one shoulder. I also treated myself to some new brogue ankle boots. They are not too wintery which I like but they are still perfect for when the rain starts to hit. I also think they look quite quirky so they were a definite must have. I went into Preston at the weekend and headed to Revolution. I love it there, the music and cocktail pitchers are great. The DJ was playing from favourite holiday tunes so it was like being back in Ibiza, if I closed my eyes! I definitely have the holiday blues at the moment. I think everyone does when they get back to England. I can’t wait to get back to Ibiza next year.

BUSINESS FOCUS... Liverpool Business is hot this autumn .... I can’t keep up with the volume of enquiries each day from businesses looking for PR services. Our services are not just for the big corporate institutions, we also work with sole traders with expansion plans. Businesses are looking for quality advertisements and creative assistance for more public awareness for its brand. Lets face it, those businesses spending now are those who will have a busy few months ahead. Get your business noticed! I have teamed up with Lifestyle, it's the number one magazine for this region. Together, we can offer some fantastic advertisement solutions for any type of business, any profession and any budget. I have spoken with several businesses opening branch offices in Merseyside. They have chosen Liverpool as its an exciting city, Liverpool has so much on offer, and our city has a very busy social calendar with the Aintree, Chester and Haydock Park races, the Matthew Street festival and Liverpool Fashion Week. And lets not forget the fantastic people that make our city. One business man told me "Liverpool is a great place to be, it has so many options for our visiting corporate clients, and the business district is really booming. Liverpool is the place to be." Hear, hear. I am finding a lot of interest from companies wanting sponsorship and brand awareness. I recommend Liverpool Fashion Week which takes place 18-22 October and it's not too late to have your branding on the night. I have also received interest about the Lifestyle Awards, which take place in February next year in conjunction with myself, Karl Fischer PR, from London businesses. LFW is set to be awesome this year, and this would certainly raise the profile and brand awareness for any business. And if you don't sponsor then I urge you to attend because this really does promise to be one of Liverpool's event highlights this year. If you are in business and are looking to expand your work or raise your profile then contact me. Together Lifestyle and I can make a real difference. karl@karlfiscer.biz @karlfischer_biz www.karlfischer.biz 34 58
