SOFIA LENT SELECTED WORKS

2020-2023

ABOUT Hello! I received my Bachelor of Science in Interior Design with a Spanish minor from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May of 2023. My passion for interior design has grown as a result of seeing the several ways a designer can transform a place to provide an atmosphere that is advantageous to both the staff and the visitors.

WORK INDIAN IT CAVE

Work completed during my degree program is included in this portfolio, with a focus on the relationships between the spaces and their surroundings as well as the interactions between users and them. Numerous of these spaces draw attention to the areas that would be used for gatherings.

The core notion of the programming was to have five main spaces. The areas were created with the users’ safety in mind. As well as the idea of keeping work and rest separate. Collaboration was an important aspect of the office environment. By employing materiality as a method to distinguish the differences between the areas by the flooring, the users can understand the flow of the space. The various seating arrangements inside the open area are also differentiation factor.

INDIAN CAVE STATE PARK Collaborators: Greta Krohn, Alyssa Winkleman, and Micheal Reider

INFORMATION Location: Shubert, NE Workflow: Revit, Rhino, Enscape, Photoshop + Illustrator

PROJECT STATEMENT A tourism destination has been created with a two-year partnership with the Nebraska Game and Parks Planning Commission to foster greater awareness of the area’s natural environment and cultural history. The design incorporates interconnected elements. Created by an interdisciplinary studio of interior design, architecture and landscape students.

Site Design by Alyssa Winkleman 15

SITE CONTEXT The building is the starting point for the 3,052 acre park that has 22 miles of trails for hiking and biking. The Missouri River borders this state park. The state park’s primary natural feature, Indian Cave, is home to prehistoric Native American petroglyphs.

CONSIDERATIONS Interdisciplinary cooperation was crucial in determining the location of the structure and views since the Nebraska State Park Commission desired a developed setting that included the visitor center including everything enclosing it.

SITE IMAGES 16

CREATING THE STRUCTURE MASSING DESIGN A structure of four staggered sections with designated categories are entry, support, public, and private areas within. The arrangement of the components, each with a sloping roof of differing heights, meant to highlight and guide to the entry point of the building.

LOCATION PLACEMENT Placing the structure in the northwest portion of the land, positioned at an angle that faces southwest vistas of rolling hills and trees.

MATERIALITY ARCHITECTURE Using natural pine wood to frame the building entrance and green painted pine wood for the remaining ship-lap.

INTERIOR A visual contrast is created by using acoustical panels with painted pine wood rafters. Subtle nods to the location can be seen in the stone floors and hanging acoustical baffles.

LANDSCAPE Mimic the flora, materials, and sensory features of the Savannah, Riverine, and Oak forest ecotypes all that are home in this state park.
