Styling the porch with the very best of fall

What better way to welcome guests to your home as the weather turns cooler than with a beautifully decorated front porch, flled with pumpkins, gourds, grasses and more?
Front porch-decorating expert Crystal Hardberger with Home Impressions OKC has a few tips to make your home’s outdoor entrance look just right for fall.
“A ‘styled’ porch is what gives your house character and curb appeal. It is one of the most important areas and refects your style,” Hardberger said.
She suggests starting with colored glazed pots for a pop of color and layering mats and rugs with coordinating textures and colors. Add a wreath to the front door, and lanterns for a welcoming ambiance. Before you get to the pumpkins, other touches can include a garden stool, chair or bench; fun pillows; an antique piece like an old wagon flled with fowers or pumpkins; and baskets for fall plants or mums. An old stool can work as a riser for adding height to pots or pumpkins, she added.
Don’t hesitate to experiment with nontraditional fall colors or an allwhite theme, Hardberger said. Include plant materials to add interest, height or texture, such as dried wheat, seed pods or wood.
Look to a local garden center to fll planters with mums, cabbage, kale and other plants, paying attention to height and color. Accent designs with fall leaves, pampas grass cattails and colorful plants like the fower cockscomb or the orange and yellow of a bittersweet vine.
Of course, the main attraction in a fall front porch show is generally the pumpkins, which in these photos are provided by Brick’s Garden.
“Use many colors and sizes of pumpkins,” Hardberger said. “Tere are so many beautiful varieties.”
