What is your “ideal vision” for the Vail Valley ten years from now?

What are some of the lessons you’ve learned from past experience?

The Vail Valley provides the “best of both worlds” to year round residents and our guests who only visit for a limited amount of time. My hope is that we continue to strive to find the right balance for both the people who live here, as well as those who only come to the Vail Valley for a resort/vacation experience. That balance will require continued and consistent investment in our schools, infrastructure and other elements that the people who live here depend on to maintain a comfortable lifestyle. It will also necessitate ongoing investment in all of the things that make the Vail Valley such an appealing world class resort destination.

It’s important to always remain cognizant of the fact that the projects that do the very best are selling more than just a “condo in the mountains”. Buyers want to find projects that are easy to buy, easy to own, and that will provide them with a hassle-free vacation experience. Whether market conditions are good or bad, buyers will appreciate the fact that they’re buying more than just a residence, but are purchasing a lifestyle. As long as a developer meets these important criteria, a project will be successful.

What is your take on the local and national real estate market? The Vail Valley market is probably performing better than any other market in the United States. Although there have been some adjustments to price we have not seen any major price reductions at this time. Also because of this extraordinary community and the lack of any significant new development, as it has in the past, the Vail Valley is likely to recover more quickly than most resort communities in the United States.
