What is your “ideal vision” for the Vail Valley ten years from now? The Vail Valley provides the “best of both worlds” to year round residents and our guests who only visit for a limited amount of time. My hope is that we continue to strive to find the right balance for both the people who live here, as well as those who only come to the Vail Valley for a resort/vacation experience. That balance will require continued and consistent investment in our schools, infrastructure and other elements that the people who live here depend on to maintain a comfortable lifestyle. It will also necessitate ongoing investment in all of the things that make the Vail Valley such an appealing world class resort destination.

What is your take on the local and national real estate market? Clearly many U.S. resort-destination cities, such as Las Vegas, San Diego, Phoenix and Miami, experienced a great deal of overbuilding which dramatically softened the real estate market in those cities. In the Vail Valley, because of growth restraints, the balance between supply and demand is much better here and we continue to do well. As long as we maintain our focus on people

What is one important lesson you’ve learned from past experience? It’s important to always remain cognizant of the fact that the projects that do the very best are selling more than just a “condo in the mountains.” Buyers want to find projects that are easy to buy, easy to own, and that will provide them with a hassle-free vacation experience. Whether market conditions are good or bad, buyers will appreciate the fact that they’re buying more than just a residence, but are purchasing a lifestyle. As long as a developer meets these important criteria, a project will be successful.
What are some of the things you’re looking forward to in the months ahead? Summertime in the Vail Valley is always my favorite time of year, and this summer I’m especially looking forward to bringing back the Coors Classic. Biking is a huge part of the mountain lifestyle, and it will be very satisfying to welcome back this classic cycling race.
