anyone and they will tell you that for them, life is challenging at best. It seems that with each passing year, one’s ability to simply cope with the day to day issues of life has become increasingly difficult, despite one’s station in life. But in the midst of our difficult and challenging existence, Jesus’ declaration that He is the Life, made some two-thousand years ago, continues to resonate the interest and curiosity of our tired and weary souls.

2013 RESURRECTION WEEKEND SERVICES

Summary of our Beliefs The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3).

Footnotes:

Have lost loved ones: Paul Meacham, Linda Tatum, George Smith, Edna Jemieson, Lalduhsanga & Shane Kelley.

Flor Balay is loved and appreciated by the Sligo staff immensely! Her joyful personality and wonderful gift of cooking, among other gifts, never cease to amaze us. Music is a big part of her life. Her husband, Joevel plays the piano and her son, Patrick plays the violin. Esmirna Guerrero is a sophomore Nursing major at Washington Adventist University. In her spare time, she loves to spend time with her family and friends. Nancy Konjo is a student at Washington Adventist University. She is a sophomore major in Music and junior major in Theology. She enjoys ministry and performing arts. Erwin Mack is Sligo’s Head Elder. He is also a former teacher, principal, world purchasing director for the General Conference & former business owner. He is busier than ever in retirement with carpentry, antique cars & making children’s toys. Sligo Friends Singers: In 1987 a group of friends started a singing ministry at Sligo Church. These are young people who used to sing with different choral groups while at college in the Philippines. They have given a number of concerts to different SDA churches on the East Coast. Ben and Swen Solis have been members of Sligo Church for more than 25 years. They have dedicated their talents to singing mostly religious songs and have performed at different venues in Europe and at many churches in the United States.

We sorrow with the family of Walter Tate, a faithful member of Sligo for years until his retirement to Avon Park, Florida. He died after a car accident last week.

sabbath devotional

Not only [is Jesus] life in the future world, He is the principle and source of life in its temporal development and future consummation, so that whoever has not received Him into himself by faith, has become a prey to spiritual and eternal death” (Meyer). “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.”

Today’s Fellowship Lunch was designated for your small group, parish, Sabbath School class, or ministry team to hold its own potluck in order to strengthen your team spirit and productiveness for ministry. One Sabbath per month will be set aside for this purpose. Call our hospitality chair, Louvina Joseph 301-431-2188 to find out which dates are available and make your reservation. Membership Report (first reading): Joining Sligo: Angela Cartwright, Sherwine Paul, Meka Schwartz Joining elsewhere: Diana Lugo, Ila McMillen Sanctuary Flowers: *If you would like to enhance the beauty of our worship by providing flowers, please contact Flor Balay at the Church Office, 301-270-6777, ext. 114.
