OUR VISION

our life together

welcome

May 19, Sunday Potomac Conference Pathfinder Fair, SAS/TA, 9:00 a.m.

Welcome to Sligo today! If you are like me, then one of your favorite movies of all time has to be the Ten Commandments, starring Charlton Heston. Although it was made before many of the technological advancements that we have in cinematography today, in my opinion, it was still able to capture and depict the awesomeness that is God. In our message today, Out of Egypt, we will revisit this amazing story of God’s deliverance of his people in the hopes that it will serve to remind us that just as this mysterious God of the desert was able to lead His people through the wilderness to their Land of Promise, He is still at work today in the lives of His people as they continue their journey to the Promised Land.

Summary of our Beliefs The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3).

sabbath devotional The Millerites firmly believed in a Blessed Hope that Jesus Christ’s “second advent” would occur on October 22, 1844. When His second coming did not take place, many Millerites were disillusioned, lost hope and gave up belief in a literal second advent; but others went back to studying the scriptures and the Blessed Hope came alive again. This Hope has brought us 150 years to the present and will lead us to His eminent return. To receive a weekly Hope Nugget please Text: HopeForToday to 70000 or Call (512) 827-0515 PIN 4673

Blood Pressure Screening will be held in the Atrium today from 10:00 - 11:10 a.m. Sponsored by the Health Action Team. Membership Report (first reading): Joining Sligo: Norma Arora, John Swan, III, Mariya Tomenko, Yuriy Tomenko Joining elsewhere: Dina Alberto, Darren Joseph, Stella Sathya Air-Con Upgrading: Having cleared the OSR loan, the next major capital project that must be undertaken here at Sligo Church is the upgrading of the air-con system. The cost for this work is $160,000 of which we already have $113,270 in hand. In future all required funds must be in hand before commencing work on any project. Consequently, the Church needs to raise an additional $46,730 before work can begin. Should you wish to give to this project, please make your contribution via the “Giving Envelope” to Church Building Improvement Project. Sligo Women’s Ministries Book Club will meet on Wednesday, June 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Discipleship Room to discuss “The Case for God” by Karen Armstrong.
