Welcome to Sligo today. I personally look forward to each Sabbath, when I am able to participate in shared spiritual experiences and be reaffirmed in my hope and faith. This Sabbath Pastor Debbie Eisele leads us in some of those experiences as she presents God’s message, entitled, ‘Stirred, not Shaken.’ Our faith is often stirred by disappointments, faded hopes, broken dreams and our inability to understand all that is happening around us. Nevertheless, we can have peace at such times, a peace that comes from the inner renewal that comes from God. Please join me in praying that all our services today will prove faith-strengthening and peace-generating.

Summary of our Beliefs The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). P: 301.270.6777 EMERGENCY: 301.980.1009 F: 301.270.3518 E: info@sligochurch.org DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOTLINE: 240.777.4000

Dr. Roo McKenzie is the new VP for Advancement and University Relations at WAU, having joined the staff from California, where he served as the principal of Loma Linda Academy for 14 years. His wife, Nelly, is also a member of staff at WAU. They have two adult children and a granddaughter. Kay Rosburg is multi-talented! In addition to her work at Dever Designs, she facilitates the monthly Sligo Book Club, she greets and she helps to coordinate a Sligo Hospitality team. Kay also was one of the people who made our Homecoming International Potluck a huge success! Fitzroy Thomas is the Associate Dean at WAU’s Center for Student Success. We appreciate his leadership at the Tuesday night Prayer Gathering, which includes leading song service. His faithful ministry to those who attend gives us a true sense of church family. Yamaris Velez was born and raised in New York. She is a sophmore at WAU, majoring in theology. Her ambition is to be a theology professor one day, in order to inspire the minds of her students with what Christ has done for the world and each human being.

Simple Truths for Life: Sligo’s Radio Ministry, can be heard each Sabbath morning from 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. on WGTS 91.9 FM. Listen with a friend, then invite them to come to church in person at 11:15 a.m. We hold in prayer those who: Request healing: David Lazarus, Marion Hudson, Sharmila Thapa, Jerry Hess, Larry Shobe, Helen West, Ziki Fanai, Scharais Sullivan Thompson, Cacilda Couto, Usha Alexander & Garland Day Have lost loved ones: Alicia Robertson, Jasper Cox, Sandra & Chandel Brown We grieve the loss of our members, Sally Cooley, Dorothy Apple & Elba Nieto We regret to announce that Bill Friday, former principal and teacher at Richmond Academy, died Monday, August 12 at his home in Roxboro, North Carolina. He was also an educator at Mount Pisgah Academy. Bill was preceeded in death by his sister, Lynn Friday who was a member of Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church. Services will be held at Patterson Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church in Richmond,Virginia. Further details will be forthcoming.

We have often enjoyed the music provided by Judy Vandeman. Her soothing voice is also heard at Washington Adventist Hospital as she cares for patients about to enter surgery. Her healing ministry to them is accompanied by prayer. The string quartet is composed of Judy’s daughter, Keri and son-in-law Deric Tomenko, Deric’s nephew, Pavel, and Oksana- a good friend. All of them are either successful graduates of Washington Adventist University (WAU) or will be soon! Charmaine Ferbish is active in music ministry with our organist, Victor Phillips at the Third Street Church of God in Washington, DC. Beginning this week, Charmaine resumes the challenging yet satisfying work as a school administrator.

Let us hear from you! To write the pastors a note, make a prayer request, or inquire about becoming a member of Sligo Church, please use a card from the hymnal rack. ANNOUNCEMENTS
