ANNOUNCEMENTS (continued) Sligo Elders will be honored with a Hospitality luncheon next Sabbath, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall A. On April 25, Sligo Church officially welcomes the Khabbaz family. Joseph Khabbaz is our new Youth and Young Adult pastor. He comes to us from the South Queensland Conference in Australia, where he served as Associate Youth Director, with responsibility for Tertiary Students and Young Adults, His wife, Christina is a former Sligo member. A longstanding tradition of Sligo Church is the pounding of new pastors and their families. Members of the church are invited to bring various items of food (each weighing approximately one pound) for the families. Pastor and Mrs. Khabbaz will be pounded on Saturday, April 25 in connection with their introduction to the Sligo community. Non-perishable items are preferred. Please take your gifts to the Atrium when you arrive on Sabbath. Let’s plan to make this a memorable event for the Khabbaz family. A reception will be held after the second service, when members will be able to greet Joseph and Christina. House of Divine Guidance is now operating the first day homeless shelter that accepts children in Montgomery County. This is held twice weekly in the Sligo Church Office Building. Your continued support is needed. For financial donations, indicate “Homeless Shelter” on your tithe envelope. Food will be sold to benefit the Family Ministry. There will be group games, table games, pingpong, and so much fun. Bring a friend! Welcome to Sligo Church. I’m sure that many of you may be familiar with the expression, “You can’t go home again.” This well known saying is the title of April 11, Saturday Thomas Wolfe’s classic novel published in 1940. Wolf’s Homeless Ministry, Discipleship Room, 2:00 p.m. novel tells the story of George Webber, a struggling writer, who writes a book about his small hometown April 12, Sunday of Lybya Hill, South Dakota and its residents and the “interesting” lives 55+ Club Brunch/Potluck, Fellowship Hall A, 10:00 a.m. that they live. It is with heartfelt sadness that we report the passing of Frank Agard on Friday, April 3 at the age of 79. Mr. Frank Agard was the beloved husband of Ellen, and loving father of Chris. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m. in Sligo SDA Church. (Viewing at 10:00 a.m.) Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. in George Washington Cemetery (9500 Riggs Road, Adelphi, MD 20783). Please keep the Agard family in prayer. Corinne Delafield passed away January 9 after a two- year battle with cancer in Bloomington, Indiana. A music educator for over 40 years, she was a long-time member of Sligo Church. Her husband Robert Albright, her daughter Debby Wells, son John Hammill and three granddaughters survive her. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 19 at Sligo SDA Church, with a reception to follow. All are welcome. Today’s Sanctuary flowers are from Washington Adventist University’s Office of Alumni Relations. Family Fun Festival will be held tomorrow, April 12, from Noon to 5:00 p.m., on the campus of Washington Adventist University. The annual event is free to the public and features live music, food and family entertainment. Join Washington Adventist University today at 4:00 p.m. in Richards Hall for their 36th G. Arthur Keough Lectureship, featuring keynote speaker Dr. Zdravko Plantak. The theme of the lecture: “Liminal Radicality: The Mission of the Church through the Embodied Proclamation.”
