welcome Welcome to Sligo. There is a very familiar proverb that says, ‘home is where the heart is.’ Although there is really no clear indication of its origin, this very popular and widely used saying is one that I’m sure has resonated with many of us throughout our lives. Whenever this proverb is used, the sentiment that is being expressed can mean either one of two things. The first is that regardless of where someone has grown up, the place they call home is with those whom they love and cherish dearly. Home for them is with the people as well as the place they care for most. But then it can also mean that their heart is always with their home, wherever home for them happens to be. This weekend as we celebrate the Homecoming of our sister institution, Washington Adventist University, I can say with confidence that for many of you who have returned to this campus this weekend, WAU is a place that you can honestly call home. And we are pleased to welcome home as our speaker for this Homecoming Sabbath, Jose Saint-Phard, as he shares with us a message titled, “Keep Moving Forward.” - Charles A. Tapp
at worship THE CHURCH
what we believe
We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. As Scripture teaches, we believe God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, saving us from sin by grace through faith. We believe the seventh-day Sabbath was established by God at Creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry as a gift of rest and rejuvenation for all. We celebrate the church as the diverse “new community” forged through the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which all are called, all are gifted, and all are valued. We anticipate Jesus’ personal and visible return to earth to raise the righteous dead, make the earth new, and dwell with His faithful children throughout eternity. We live out our love for Jesus by growing in His likeness and by serving our fellowmen.
