welcome

Welcome to Sligo today. One of my favorite times of the Christmas season, especially when I was a young child, was when we would get December 7, Sunday the opportunity to open our gifts on Christmas Pathfinder Meeting, Office Chapel, 9:30 a.m. morning. And when I say morning, I mean whatever time we opened our eyes, although in Knitting Ministry, Discipleship Room, 11:00 a.m. many cases, as children, we never really slept. December 8, Monday I remember how tempting it was for me to open the presents from under the tree prematurely, but instead having to wait Regeneration Ministries, Office Conference Room, 7:00 p.m. patiently until my parents gave me the “green light” that the moment had finally arrived. I have to admit that there were times December 10, Wednesday when I would take a sneak peek just to get a glimpse of what Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. (or by phone: 949.229.4400 Pin:4997774#, 7:35 p.m.) I would be receiving. Sometimes I was elated by what I would see, while at other times I was sorely disappointed. But can you Knitting Ministry, Prayer Room, 7:00 p.m. imagine how disappointed I would have been upon opening my Sligo Book Club, Discipleship Room, 7:00 p.m. present only to discover that the gift I was so excited about was broken! Today as we celebrate the Lord’s Supper we do so by Sanctuary Choir Rehearsal, Choir Room, 7:30 p.m. celebrating a gift whose true value to us as sinners, strangely December 11, Thursday enough is in fact that it is broken.

You are all invited to the ordination service of Pastor Pranitha Fielder at 1:30 p.m. on Sabbath, December 13, in the Sligo Church Sanctuary. Pastor Fielder has been a part of the Sligo Church community for the past thirteen years and values the support she has received from the church in her development as a pastor and in her personal growth. She loves the members of this Church and will cherish their presence at her ordination service. 2nd Advent Candle – The Bethlehem Candle or The Candle of Preparation – God kept his promise of a Savior who would be born in Bethlehem. Preparation means to “get ready.” Help us to be ready to welcome YOU, O GOD! “As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: ‘A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all mankind will see God’s salvation.‘ (Luke 3:4-6) Sweet treats - today is the final day to place orders for Pathfinder Candy in the Atrium. Help support the pathfinder club by purchasing our home made Belgian chocolate truffles, turtles, bark and caramels. Orders will be available for pick up the weekend of December 20th.
