MISCELLANEOUS
Welcome to Sligo. I have learned that whenever a building or structure of any kind is being built, one of the most February 11, Saturday critical factors to consider is its foundation. The biggest Young Adults GLOW Study, Memorial Chapel, 9:30 a.m. reason for this is that any mistakes that are made in the foundation will only get worse as you go up. In Pathfinder Bible Experience, Sanctuary, 2:45 p.m. construction terms, this is what is commonly referred to February 13, Monday as compounding defects. What this means is that if there is a defect in Regeneration Ministries, Office Conference Room, 7:30 p.m. the foundation itself, then any part of the building process that follows will be negatively impacted as well. The same holds true when it February 15, Wednesday comes to the founding values and principles of any society. It has been said that what makes a nation great is the values and principles that Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. serve as its foundation. If these values are flawed then there should (or by phone: 949.229.4400 Pin:4997774#, 7:35 p.m.) be no surprise when the citizen’s behavior is a mere reflection of those values. But if the foundation of a society is built upon values and February 16, Thursday principles that serve to uplift and edify, then there is the expectation Exercise Class, Office Chapel, 6:30 p.m. that its citizens should reflect those values as well. - Charles A. Tapp

Did you know that … the opening service for the newly constructed Sligo Church was held on December 30, 1944? On that Sabbath, a congregation of more than 2,000 gathered to hear General Conference Vice-President, W.H. Branson, preach. At that time, the building held 2,300 people, making it the largest SDA church in the nation’s capital, Washington DC, and the world. On June 1, 1946, the church was formally dedicated. A few days later, on June 5th, Sligo Church served as the venue for the 1946 General Conference. A photograph depicting the General Conference delegates hangs in our Greenwood Entrance lobby today.

“It may well be that we will have to repent in this generation. Not merely for the vitriolic words and the violent actions of the bad people, but for the appalling silence and indifference of the good people who sit around and say, “Wait on time.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
