The year 2014 has been officially declared the “Year of Hope” here at Sligo. It is our goal as part February 16, Sunday of the body of Christ to spread the message of Pathfinder Meeting, Office Chapel, 9:00 a.m. hope to those in our church, here on our campus and throughout our broader community, in very February 17, Monday tangible and concrete ways. But one of the Stewart Bainum Funeral, Sanctuary, 11:00 a.m. challenges that comes along with sharing is that not everyone Regeneration Ministries, Office Conf. Room, 7:00 p.m. will be receptive to what is being offered, regardless of how Church Office is closed desperately it might be needed. In our message today, titled, “Running from Hope,” we will take a look at one of the heroes February 18, Tuesday of the Old Testament who not only had a difficult time accepting Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. what was being offered, but he actually ran from it. As you join us February 19, Wednesday for worship today, we are honored to have academy students from Sligo Ringers, SAS - Room 114, 7:00 p.m. throughout the region as they take part in Washington Adventist Sanctuary Choir Rehearsal, Choir Room, 7:30 p.m. University’s annual band festival. We look forward to the pivotal February 21, Friday role that they will play in our worship service in helping to draw us into a life-changing encounter with our Creator and Redeemer. • The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40)

Footnotes: The biennial Washington Adventist University Band Festival features select music students from across the Columbia Union as well as members of the WAU Symphonic Band. This year we are happy to welcome Craig Mohr of Glendale Adventist Academy to our campus as the guest conductor. These students have spent the last three days rehearsing, despite the snow, and are proud to share their hard work and talents with you. Gladys Guerrero is a Kindergarten teacher at George E. Peters School in Hyattsville, MD. Carolyn Luce Kujawa, a longtime Sligo member, former professor of English, and GC retiree, now volunteers with GC Women’s Ministries Scholarshipping Our Sisters [SOS]. This program, which helps Adventist women around the world attend college, is her passion, and she is delighted that Sligo now has an SOS chapter led by Jean Arthur. Enoch Thomas is a longtime member of Sligo Church, and is a witness of the many changes this church has experienced. He counts books as some of his best friends. He is a member of the team of teachers of the purple sabbath school class.
