Welcome to Sligo today. In 1950, The General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists officially formed an organization within the youth department of the world church that was designed to focus on training its youth in the areas of camping, recreation and crafts, while at the same time working toward developing leaders of the church and the community at large. Although similar to Scouting, the Pathfinder Club has a stronger spiritual emphasis than that of the Scouts. While the early beginnings of the Pathfinder club go back as far as 1912, The Pathfinder Club, or simply Pathfinders, has its roots right here in the city of Takoma Park. Today, Pathfinders is a global ministry within the Seventh-day Adventist Church in which boys and girls 10 years and up are able to take part in being developed socially, culturally and spiritually. Right here at Sligo, we are blessed to have one of the most vibrant clubs around, under the capable leadership of director, Darrell Milam, who is in his 16th year. Today, we are pleased to have Sherilyn O’Ffill, associate youth director of the Potomac Conference, as our speaker as we pause to celebrate the worldwide ministry of Pathfinders. Please welcome her as she shares the message, “And a Friend to Man.” - Charles A. Tapp
what we believe
Join us next week here at Sligo as Pr. Charles A. Tapp continues his series of sermons on Revelation, with a message titled, “Signed, Sealed & Delivered!” Music will be provided by the Sligo Band, Singers & Strings. Sligo Church Service, Sanctuary, 8:45 & 11:00 a.m. Speaker: Charles A. Tapp Mizo Service, Office Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Kerala Church, WAU Richards Hall, 10:00 a.m.
We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. As Scripture teaches, we believe God became man in the person of Jesus Christ, saving us from sin by grace through faith. We believe the seventh-day Sabbath was established by God at Creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry as a gift of rest and rejuvenation for all. We celebrate the church as the diverse “new community” forged through the death and resurrection of Jesus, in which all are called, all are gifted, and all are valued. We anticipate Jesus’ personal and visible return to earth to raise the righteous dead, make the earth new, and dwell with His faithful children throughout eternity . We live out our love for Jesus by growing in His likeness and by serving our fellowmen.
