our life together ANNOUNCEMENTS (continued) Luella Scott, a charter member of Sligo church, celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday, October 15. She now lives with her neice and nephew in Georgia. Church Budget Target – Our profile of giving shows that we are $53,000 down on budget. If the church is to meet all its ongoing financial obligations and support its many nurture and outreach ministries, it is essential that we reach our budget target by the end of the year. We can do this by increasing our contributions to the church budget and, where we have not been in the habit of giving, start to honor God with our tithe and offerings. Increasing our contributions to the church budget by even 20% would significantly increase income and take us to our budget target. Beyond supporting our church, our offerings are our response of love to God’s blessings and goodness. The famous English novelist George Orwell once said that, “The most effective way to destroy a people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.” As Seventh-day Adventists, we have been endowed with a rich history that has served in keeping us united as a people as well as focused on our God-given destiny. The sad truth is that if we make the mistake of viewing our history simply as a relic of the past, we are in danger of losing both. In honor of Adventist Heritage month we are pleased to welcome David Trim, Director of Archives, Statistics, and Research for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, as he shares with us his message titled, Stones of Meaning.

Summary of our Beliefs

OCTOBER 12, 2013

• The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40)
