Church Budget Target – Our profile of giving shows that we are $54,000 down on budget. If the church is to meet all its ongoing financial obligations and support its many nurture and outreach ministries, it is essential that we reach our budget target by the end of the year. We can do this by increasing our contributions to the church budget and, where we have not been in the habit of giving, start to honor God with our tithe and offerings. Increasing our contributions to the church budget by even 20% would significantly increase income and take us to our budget target. Beyond supporting our church, our offerings are our response of love to God’s blessings and goodness. What comes to your mind when you hear the word legacy? Do you think of great financial wealth that has been passed on from generation to generation? Or how about the legacy of a famous name that has afforded someone with opportunities and opened doors that would otherwise have remained closed? But here’s the real question - As Christians, what type of legacy should we leave behind? What is the legacy that God would have us pass on to future generations? Today as we celebrate the ministry of Sligo School, our pastor for children and family ministries, Gerry Lopez, will provide us with insights into the type of legacy that we, as believers, should leave behind for our children in his message titled, Your Greatest Legacy.

Summary of our Beliefs • The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40)

October is Pastor Appreciation Month. You can express your appreciation for the role our pastors play in our Sligo Church life at anytime, but take some time during the rest of the month to pray for our Sligo pastors, their families and their ministries.

Our mission is to provide a relevant Christ-centered education that fosters an environment of spiritual growth, academic excellence and personal accountability. SAS was founded in 1917 by Washington Missionary College (now known as Washington Adventist University) as a practice school for elementary teachers. The school was located on the college campus. By the late 1950s the school had outgrown its space in Richards Hall. Grades 7 and 8 were moved to Takoma Academy and plans were laid for construction of a larger facility on land right next door to Takoma Academy. Ground was broken on September 22, 1963 and school started in the new building on Carroll Avenue in September 1964. The school was dedicated debt-free on February 25, 1967.

Let us hear from you! To write the pastors a note, make a prayer request, or inquire about becoming a member of Sligo Church, please use a card from the hymnal rack. ANNOUNCEMENTS
