welcome

Welcome to Sligo today. From the time that we were children, the tenet of obedience has been drilled into our consciousness. In the home we were told to obey October 7, Saturday our parents. When we were finally old enough to be Young Adults GLOW, Memorial Chapel, 9:30 a.m. carted off to school, we were then told to obey our Block Party, Sligo Parking Lot, 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. teachers. As we grew older and became more aware of our surroundings we were taught to obey the laws of the land as well as those who were selected to enforce them. And October 8, Sunday in the midst of all of this, those of us who were fortunate enough to be Exercise Class, Office Chapel, 9:00 a.m. raised in a Christian home were told that we also needed to add God October 9, Monday to this already lengthy list. But have you ever stopped to consider what it means to be obedient? What is it that lies at the heart of obedience Recovery Ministry, Office Conference Room, 7:30 p.m. that has made it such an integral part of our orientation as humans from the moment we enter this life until our time on this earth has October 11, Wednesday ended. And as Christians, does our obedience to God call for more Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. than what is deemed acceptable by society and if not, why not? Sanctuary Choir Rehearsal, Choir Room, 8:00 p.m. - Charles A. Tapp

(John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. Scripture 1 Samuel 15:17-22 (NKJV)

Sherwine Paul

Leader: So Samuel said, “When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the Lord anoint you king over Israel? Congregation: Now the Lord sent you on a mission, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’ Leader: Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? Why did you swoop down on the spoil, and do evil in the sight of the Lord?” Congregation: And Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and gone on the mission on which the Lord sent me, and brought back Agag king of Amalek; I have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. Leader: But the people took of the plunder, sheep and oxen, the best of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice to the Lord your God in Gilgal.” All: So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.”
