Welcome to Sligo. My Sligo pastoral colleagues and I, with our families, spent some time this week reflecting on our work as spiritual leaders and reaffirming our August 13, Saturday commitment to share Christ’s love to all with whom we Young Adults GLOW, Memorial Chapel, 9:30 a.m. come in contact. One of the subjects that took center stage in our discussions was God’s amazing love that August 15, Monday o brought Jesus to earth and led to His vicarious sacrifice Regeneration Ministries, Office Conference Room, 7:30 p.m. on the cross. We celebrate that sacrifice and marvel at the motive that led Jesus to give His life to save people from their sins. But Jesus August 17, Wednesday came to do more than save people from their sins. He also came to Prayer Gathering, Sanctuary, 7:00 p.m. create a new humanity by transforming lives marred by centuries of (or by phone: 949.229.4400 Pin:4997774#, 7:35 p.m.) sin’s reign. In my sermon today, titled, “Your Life, Not Your Skin,” I will endeavor to share with worshipers that what God requires of us is not August 18, Thursday improvements to our sin-dominated lives but transformation of those Exercise Class, Office Chapel, 6:30 p.m. lives into something new and God-like. Join me in praying that our worship today will resonate with each heart and honor the name of our heavenly Father. - Don McFarlane worship schedule

Summary of our Beliefs • The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only rule of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). • Jesus Christ is the Divine Son of God and our personal Savior from sin by grace through faith. (John 1:1-3; Ephesians 2:8). • Having been saved, followers of Jesus live in obedience to Him by observing the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20: 1-17; John 14:15). • The Sabbath – the seventh day of the week- established by God at creation and honored by Jesus in His earthly ministry, is to be observed by the followers of Jesus. (Exodus 20:8-11; 1 Peter 2:21). • Jesus is coming back to earth personally and visibly to raise the righteous dead and give His faithful children of all ages immortality in an earth made new. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 22:12; 21:1-3). • Our love for God is demonstrated primarily by our love for our fellowmen. (1 John 4:20; Matthew 25:34-40).

JESUS PROJECT: Desire of Ages, Chapter 38, August 14 - August 20
• Dr. Joseph Gurubatham on August 9, at the age of 74. Dr. Gurubatham served as Academic Dean of Columbia Union College and President of Griggs University, among other positions of leadership in the Adventist Church. He was a longtime member of Sligo Church. Joseph is survived by his wife, Juanita, and his sons Eric and Kevin Gurubatham. A memorial service will be held at Sligo Church at a date to be determined. Today’s Sanctuary flowers are given by Sylvan Coke, in gratitude to God for his wife and children. A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Ruth Dunbebin on Saturday, August 20, at 4:00 p.m. in Sligo Church. On behalf of the entire pastoral staff, we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made a contribution to Homecoming 2016. Whether you deem your role to be big or small, your contribution was what helped to make this year’s celebration such a success. It was evident in all areas that we as a church are truly developing a sense of what it means to be the community of Christ. As we look forward to next year, may we do so with the anticipation and the hope of the great homecoming that will take place at the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
