Hi, I am Sanduni Fernando. I am currently an architecture student who is following the BSc (Hons) Architecture program at Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), which is affiliated with Liverpool John Moor University (LJMU).

It was my dream to be a creative person since childhood. So I am interested in the field of architecture where I can be more unique with a passion for art and science.

I desire to have a positive change within society through my designs and for that I will work hard with dedication and commitment.

PROJECT SUMMARY

The project is about analyzing and understanding the character Andare , the court jester of medieval Sri lanka, arriving at the concept and represent it through the 2D design.

Andare

In the days of the Sinhala kings having a royal jester at the court was a tradition. The job of this royal jester was to keep everyone in the court including king, queen, members of the royal family, courtiers and others entertained and make them laughed. As history says Andare was a clever court jester who lived during the 18th century during the reigns of King Keerthi Sri Rajasigha and Rajadhi Rajasigha.

Concept

Andare is an intellectual, living character.

Intellectual character - he used fascinating, creative , dramatic, logical entertaining methods while balancing the both sides , royals and others without giving king a chance to punished him through his jokes.

Living character- he is a dynamic, stable, shining character as a diamond in Sri Lankan history, who is a living legend among Sri Lankans even today.

Concept Emphasize Andare as intelligent, opportunistic, fascinating character

The 3D composition is consist of three main parts, head, body and base. Head and the body reflects the qualities of Andare to be intelligent and opportunistic while the base reflects the society where Andare is a fascinating character in everyone’s eye. This works as a lamp shade which its body can be rotate The rotation depicts beginning with the end, end with the beginning which means he is immortal character in Sri Lanka.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Initially as a group we were required to create an interactive structural representation that is both visual and tangible, to represent the research topic about “Vasthu Purusha Mandala”

Mandala' is the collective name for a chart or a plan that symbolically represents the universe. 'Purusha' alludes to cosmic man, energy, connection, power, or soul. The Vastu Purusha Mandala is metaphysical planning of building that subsumes the journey of supernatural forces and heavenly bodies.

PROJECT SUMMARY

The project is about taking measurements of our own bedroom and redesign it according to the personal requirements.

Concept -Living in a piano-

I am a tranquil person who love listening to music and playing piano during my leisure time. So the feeling I needed to enhance through the design was a calm environment with a sustainable music expression within my bedroom. I was inspired by the music piece “miracles in December” while playing it on the piano.

The designed bedroom is not only for the sleeping purpose, but also for the studying too. So I create an isolated place for me with a balcony where I can see the view of greeneries while listening to the musical rhythms of environment

PROJECT SUMMARY

This project is about designing a portable camping kitchen which will enable to prepare a meal for two persons, who are camping partners.

Camping is a recreational outdoor activity which involves overnight stays away from home in a shelter. This recreational activity dates back to 1880’s and said to be popularized in UK on the river Thames Later it evolves to many areas and present-day camping may be combined with hiking as in back-packing and is in conjunction with outdoor activities such as canoeing, climbing, fishing, and hunting. to be regarded as "camping" a minimum of one night spent outdoors is required and this involves in getting the meals prepared for overnight stay at the camping site.

Concept

-Feel nature while enjoying-

The concept is inspired by the natural incident, falling of a leaf to the ground. In here the design depicts three things, dry leaf, wind and ground. Dry leaf is light weighted object which is easy to carried by the wind to place it on ground. As same as, the portable camping kitchen should be easy to carry by the user until the destination Dry leaf resembles the portable camping kitchen which is light weighted, wind resembles the user, who is carrying the kitchen and the ground is the location where the final destination of the camping.

PROJECT SUMMARY

In this project we are expected to design a small free-standing building which is a studio cum, bedsitter for a creative artist at a selected site. This studio should mainly respond to both the character of the artist and the art form.

An artist is a creative person who spends time to express their creativity through different media. Some through Painting, some through dance and others through other different art forms using non-conventional media such as metal, glass, clay and visual technology. Regardless of the medium they use, every artist seeks to express their ideas, ideals and emotions in a creative manner

Concept

Beauty of the imperfection- Wabi-Sabi Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese concept which enhance the unique beauty in imperfect things. For an example they see a beauty in a cracked tea pot. According to the concept everything should not need to be perfect to have a beauty in it. The design enhance the way that user see things. The key point of the design is the eye, which he sees the beauty in imperfect things with a perfect vision.

PROJECT SUMMARY

A house is a building where people live in and conduct their privet lives. It is a place of dwell and to feel at home. The architecture and the expression of what a house is has changed dramatically with time, and will also changed based on the owner, site and climate. The culture of the society and social strata will also have a profound effect on how a house is arrange in terms of space

Concept Open green patch

The concept aim is to provide an relaxing space which is combined with greenery, by maintain the feeling of freedom through the common interesting spaces, where the house become a home for the user.

Throughout the design the water has used by enhancing the architectural significant as well as a natural cooling method. Open courtyards, more doors and windows provides cross ventilation within the design.
