I’m 21 years old undergraduate student studying BSc (hons) Architecture, awarded by Liverpool John Moores University conducted by Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology. Ever since I remember I have loved art and creative designing that made me choose architecture as my future career. PROJECT SUMMARY

University student Hostel is an accommodation method for the students which is under the direct control and management of the university maintained by or affiliated to the University. And which generally admits only students of that university.

The Project is a multi-storey building for an occupancy type related to residential use for 150-200 students. it is a shared sociable lodging where students can rent a bed, usually a bunk bed in a dormitory with shared use of common spaces like Kitchens, study areas, washrooms, etc. The building design will reflect and enhance the identity of the institution while harmoniously blending with the surrounding context while creating a sense of community for the occupants of the hostel.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Sri Lanka pottery industry is one of the small enterprises which require sufficient institutional support to identify problems and develop the industry. And thereby raise the quality bar high for Sri Lanka pottery items in the world to expand further into export market.

The Pottery industry is falling under Rural Industry promotion Ministry of the Sri Lankan government, is keen on establishing a new pottery promotion and production center, to uplift the traditional pottery industry and make it viable for the traditional potters by coupling the production with design and marketing teams.

This Design project will be to study the activity of a Pottery center, by understanding its functional requirements, current issues and to create a new Pottery center with Design, production, promotion, and sales.

PHYSICAL MODEL

PROJECT SUMMARY

The Dutch Burgher Union of Ceylon , is an organization of Dutch Burghers in Sri Lanka. It was established on 18th January 1908 by Richard Anthonisz. In 1913, the union constructed a two storey building in cinnamon gardens Colombo 07 which still exists with its colonial architecture and it is a true piece of Ceylon history.

The design project is deriving from Adaptive Re-use buildings, This project will be to connect the Dutch Burger Union and its activities to the public more effectively through expanding and redesigning the building to a new brief. This is in a prime location in Colombo, Thunmulla Junction. The design retain the old building with its distinct character with minor alterations and redesign of the later extension in the rear side of the building.

The DBU Building is located in Cinnamon Gardens Colombo 07 near Thunmulla junction. The town consisted of a very large Burgher and Muslim population in early periods and now it’s a Sinhala majority area with other minor communities belongs to ethnic groups such as Moors, Tamils, Indian tamils.

CENTER

The design will provide more than one use or purpose in the design venue. Because of that it is named as a mixed use venue. The functions will help users to feel and expose creativity, and have joyful memories here. The users can rent this place and can organize events like exhibitions, interactive art installations, live performances. They will not feel tired as there are also spaces provided with refreshments and resting areas.
