ENTERTAINMENT PLAZA

PROJECT SUMMARY

This plaza is incorporated into the development plan of Tech City for Homagama and aims to meet the entertainment needs of the future citizens of the area.

With the development of Meegoda as the electronic cluster of Tech City, an issue arises regarding the overflow of IT professionals into the area Due to Meegoda having no areas allocated for entertainment or recreation these individuals will have no outlet for their stress This will cause a drop in efficiency and affect the local economy in the years to come. Therefore it is vital that the professionals of the IT sector should be given a space for entertainment.

Since the main objective is to alleviate stress it is important that the entertainment provided focuses on relaxing the mind instead of stimulating it And since Meegoda is within a 5km radius of universities such as NSBM Green University and Institute of Technology Moratuwa the center should also cater to university students. By bringing down the stress levels of the working sector and students they will be able to produce better results and contribute to the economy.

Entertainment is a common factor that everyone enjoys Using an entertainment center to bring together those in the Meegoda area be it IT professionals, students or residents will ensure that a sense of community is created.

This sense of community and connectivity while enjoying themselves will improve the mental state of overstressed workers and university students while also helping the old residents of Meegoda welcome the new community and its changes

The design is composed of 4mX4mX4m modular units to represent a gathering of individuals creating a community

The v shaped arrangement on all elevations and ground floor draw the pedestrians into the plaza. The focal point towards the rear garden emphasized by a statue encourage the users journey with streets and the color of the exterior acting as guides to the activity happening in the interior

PROJECT SUMMARY

The aim of this project was to provide a Museum and Information Center that would educate and help conserve the world heritage rainforest of Kanneliya while creating a structure on an environmentally sensitive land

The conservation of the Kanneliya forest is constantly threatened due to poaching, pollution and deforestration This is due to the people in Kanneliya earning below the national poverty line and not fully benefiting from the forest. In other words, there is a disconnection between the forest and the people.

To conserve the forest it is critical that the harmful gap between humans and nature is bridged In an infromation center and museum this can be done through: Providing information on how to gain from the forst without harming it Knowing why Kanneliya is important Creating a sense of love and respect towards the forest.
