Inspiration Verbatim... Self -care 2022

PUTTING YOUR OWN HEALTH AND WELL-BEING FIRST HAS PROVEN BENEFITS, AND WILL ALSO FLOW ON TO BENEFIT YOUR FAMILY, COLLEAGUES AND ACQUAINTANCES. TAKE A LEAD FROM THOSE IN THE SPOTLIGHT AND MAKE TIME FOR A LITTLE TIME TO FOCUS ON YOURSELF. Balancing the challenges of motherhood and the being the female GOAT of tennis can be all-consuming. Serena Williams makes an effort to allocated time to the usual self-care as well as at least one session a week of playing video games on her Nintendo Switch, which she asserts has proven mental health benefits. While zoning out on a game, the brain enters something called a flow state, which is similar to meditation, allowing us a reprieve from the chaos of regular life. “Where you’ll find me in between training, meetings, and mom-ing: cosying up with my Nintendo Switch,” Serena says. “When I have those few minutes, it’s such a great way to unwind.”

In a recent video posted to social media, Jada, Willow and Jada’s mum, Adrienne spoke about the importance of self-care. “One of the personal care routines I learned from my mother was taking care of my feet,” said Jada. “You would butter up your feet at night with Vaseline.” From her own mum, Adrienne learned is the importance of rest. “You know, grandma believed in taking a nap!” Willow spoke of what she learned from her mother, Jada. “I think the beauty secret that you’ve passed down to me is exfoliation, because you’re really big at exfoliation like, all over the body. And that’s so important because most people think about exfoliating just their face or just their feet, but you need to do it for your whole body.”

Long before there was a trend or hashtag, Jen spoke up for the value of self-care. In a June 2021 interview with E! News, she told the outlet her main priority is meditation. During the first hour of her morning, she stays away from her phone completely, that means no emails, and no social media to focus instead on meditation, journaling, and time with her dogs. “This helps me gear up for the day ahead, stay mindful, and thrive mentally, psychically, and spiritually.”

Honest and open about her struggles with mental health, Lady Gaga, (aka Stefani Germanotta) has also been vocal about the practices, like gratitude, that help her cope during her lowest moments. Over Thanksgiving, the House of Gucci star said, “I’m very grateful for my family, a hard-working Italian-American family. And I’m thankful for New York. Thank you to all of our healthcare workers, our doctors, our nurses, our frontline workers, we couldn’t have done this without you, and we love you.”
