Jana Firestone, therapist, writer, podcaster, entrepreneur and mum of three, has recently released her first book, Embracing Change, a how-to manual for overcoming the fear of change and taking the leap into the unknown. The book is broken down into the key psychological barriers to change, from imposter syndrome, anxiety and perfectionism to self-esteem, fear and grief – with plenty more in between. It also weaves in stories from her popular podcast The Curious Life which features interviews with the likes of surfer Layne Beachley, actor Michala Banas, broadcasters Kate Langbroek and Jon Faine and former Bachelor star Sam Wood. Jana is a therapist with a degree in psychology and a Master’s in counselling. She has spent the past 16 years working intensively with people experiencing grief and trauma, including as a counsellor at The Coroners Court of Victoria where she worked with families of the victims of the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. In Embracing Change, Jana draws upon this expertise, as well as her own experience of losing her mother at a young age. For Jana, this unexpected loss ultimately led her to shift gears and pursue a career in psychology, demonstrating how times of change can also be the catalyst for our most important growth. As Jana explains, “Change is an incredibly exciting dynamic – it provides fresh inspiration, enlivens our senses, alters the way we see the world and can deliver outcomes so positive we can’t believe it took us so long to make the leap in the first place. “But it’s the act of making the leap that keeps so many of us stuck.” With a blend of professional advice, personal experience and real-life stories, Embracing Change is a key to unlocking your potential. Published by Affirm. RRP $29.99.
