I know I certainly have. I actually grew up hearing my mother and grandmother often say, look at their neck and that will be a true indicator of how old someone is. Or maybe you have admired someone’s beautiful smooth skin on their face and then seen a totally different picture when scanning your eyes down to their neck. It’s no secret to any of us that the appearance of one’s skin on their neck is a dead giveaway of 1. How old they are and 2. How much work they have had done to their face.

With each birthday our skin loses elasticity and collagen production starts to decline from our late 20s (gasp) and then the appearance is compounded by the years of sunbaking we have done in our earlier years (not to mention the application of coconut oil!). The skin begins to show signs of ageing and skin that was once tight and smooth starts to show lines, wrinkles, & crepiness. The skin is thinner and looks more papery, saggy and not as toned. Sounds terrible, doesn’t it? It is even more terrible when you notice that is how your skin is looking when sitting at the hairdressers and you catch a glimpse of it in the mirror! Or you see a photo and you can’t look past the skin on your neck! How did it even happen because you are sure it wasn’t there yesterday. Thankfully with advances in the cosmetic industry there have been new developments and new equipment is available to repair ‘hard to treat’ areas such as our neck. Tixel®has been described as being as effective as CO2 ablative laser without the downtime.

Tixel® is a revolutionary treatment that has been proven to be highly effective treating areas using heat (thermomechanical ablative technology) to resurface, tighten and rejuvenate the skin.

It is safe for all parts of the body and targets hard to treat areas such as: • under eye bags, • heavy eyelids • perioral lines (around the mouth lines) • melasma

• rosacea

• scarring and stretch marks. The procedure can take between 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area being treated. A compounded topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) is applied to make the treatment more comfortable. Most people find the treatment warm but tolerable and then after the treatment the skin feels hot (like a bad sunburn) which settles within a few hours. The number of treatments required varies depending on skin quality but as a general guide it is usually recommended to have three treatments every four weeks. The downtime includes red, hot skin for a few hours afterwards and redness to the skin lasting for one to three days. Ice is wonderful! The skin will feel dry and dehydrated and tiny brown dots (micro crusting) may appear (shows the stamping effect) for a few days and last up to seven days (depending on the setting used). Mineral make-up is recommended because bacteria doesn’t grow in it which minimises the risk of infection whilst the skin heals. Makeup can be applied 24 hours after the procedure and will cover the brown dots seen on the skin.
