The skin and tissues that make up the upper and lower eyelids are very important to protect the eyeball from damage from dust and other environmental damage. The ductal tear system provides lubrication for the covering (cornea) of the eyeball.
The upper and lower eyelids are subjected to ageing changes and may be one of the more obvious signs of ageing. Consider that when we communicate with someone face to face we usually look into their eyes and may see these ageing changes.
These changes are caused by a number of factors: genetics – often we can see the ageing aspect of our parents’ eyelids beginning to develop in our younger selves; environmental causes such as sun, dust, allergy and topical beauty applications. the top eyelids. Puffiness of upper and lower eyelids is caused by herniation of fat pads through a weakened membrane around the eyes and gives a tired appearance to the person’s face, often worse in the morning.
The height of the brow (low eyebrow) may also contribute to the heaviness of the upper eyelid skin.
A consultation with our highly experienced Plastic Surgeons at the Lotus Institute will assess the ageing changes around the eyelids and provide a plan for rejuvenation to provide more youthful eyelids and /or brow.
Other rejuvenation procedures can be done at the same time, or separately, such as MIFACE or Liplift.
Non-surgical procedures at Lotus such as wrinkle reduction with muscle relaxant injections, light peels and dermal filler may be appropriate. Surgical procedures available at Lotus are Blepharoplasty (resection of skin and fat pads), brow lift (keyhole), medical peels and CO2 laser resurfacing and festoon and malar fat pad reduction.
Great care with assessment of the eyelid problem and care with the procedures is necessary to maintain the important function of the eyelids to protect the eyeball.
