PRESIDENT’S CORNER [ FROM THE PRESIDENT ] By Matthew Grosdidier, president

It feels incredibly odd writing this because it officially marks the end of my term as president. This past year has flown by in the blink of an eye, and I can’t believe it is time to hand over the reins to a new team of SAB. My time on this board has been marked with some of my favorite college experiences, from CASE ASAP in Ohio to the Wabash CannonBall. I have made some of my best friends in this group, and it seems like yesterday when I was skyping in from my dorm room in Prague trying desperately to enter this organization. My efforts proved worth it, and SAB has given me so much more than I could have imagined over these past two years. Looking back on the year, we have accomplished so much as a board. We continued helping students with applications and interviews with our second BrandingU workshop. We welcomed back two truly distinguished alumni in February as Megan McCall ’08, ’11 and Bryce Huschka ’07 gave keynotes and reconnected with K-State.

With our Just for Juniors and For Sophomores Only programs, we helped showcase how great our university is to prospective students. Just last week, we celebrated our outgoing seniors through a Grad Bash party. The list goes on and on, but the point is that SAB has made a huge impact both on and off campus. This year I am so thankful to all the SAB members for helping push the envelope to stay on top of our game. While not quantifiable, I believe the attitude of continued growth in an organization that doesn’t want to stay complacent is one of our greatest accomplishments. Our advisers along with the president and CEO of the Alumni Association, Amy Button Renz ’76, ’86, have been instrumental in helping ensure we continue to improve as an organization. I would like to personally thank all our advsiers for providing such guidance to myself and the rest of SAB. I know it is through their great leadership that I was able to learn so much this year. I also want to thank my exec team for helping make this year one to remember. We became close friends while serving together and you all made my job super easy with your great work. In addition to all the work we accomplished, I think it is important to note how much fun SAB has as a group.

When you bring some of the most charismatic and creative students across campus together, there is bound to be a good (and usually very loud) time. I want to thank all of SAB for providing me with countless laughs and weird stories, many of which were shared in our hilarious Growls during meetings. I know this will continue to be a tight knit group of people, and I take comfort knowing that the relationships I built in SAB will continue past this goodbye. Endings are always difficult when there is passion involved, and I am certainly going to miss being a member of the Student Alumni Board. There are a lot of emotions involved in any transition in life, but one I do not have for SAB is apprehension towards our new leaders. The new team is Hallie Lucas (president), Taylor Beashore (VP campus programming), Colby Works (VP membership), Carrie Mulder (VP development) and Alex Troike (secretary). This group is going to be amazing next year, and I cannot wait to see all they accomplish as SAB continues to grow. As a now past student, I am excited to continue the link with K-State that the Alumni Association and SAB provides. I may be leaving the campus for now, but I am certain Manhattan can’t keep me away for long.

K-State student groups, adviser named outstanding by CASE-ASAP Two K-State student groups and one adviser were recognized for their efforts at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education-Affiliated Student Advancement Programs’ District VI conference in February. K-State’s Student Alumni Board and Student Foundation were named 2018 Outstanding Organizations by CASE-ASAP District VI. Additionally, Marcus Kidd ’14, ’16, Student Alumni Board’s adviser and assistant director of student programs for the Alumni Association, was named 2018 Outstanding Adviser. Student Alumni Board, Student Foundation and Kidd are in the running to receive the national awards in these categories. The winners will be announced this summer. This is the second year in a row a Student Alumni Board adviser has been named outstanding adviser by the organization. Last year, Jessica Elmore ’06, ’15, Student Alumni Board adviser and associate director of diversity programs for

the Alumni Association, earned the honor. “These honors reflect the effort, time and dedication our organizations have put in place to showcase K-State,” said Amy Button Renz ’76, ’86, president and CEO of the Alumni Association. “Through their leadership efforts, these student organizations help our entire K-State family build lifelong connections to the university.” “Through their vision and commitment to serving the K-State community, the KSU Student Foundation has created a level of engagement for student philanthropy that is second to none,” said Greg Willems, president and CEO of the KSU Foundation. “We’re proud of their hard work toward building a culture of philanthropy that begins while they are students and will continue for a lifetime of supporting K-State.” Keep an eye out for some stellar SAB members representing our esteemed group at the conference this summer!
