The Value of LEED® LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Available for virtually all building types, LEED provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership.

Legrand helps you earn LEED® certification

“The Open Back Better Act of 2021 (S. 531), introduced by Sen. Tina Smith and the companion House bill sponsored by Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (116-H.R. 7303, contained in the LIFT America Act) would provide federal seed funding leveraged with private capital, to

invest in needed energy and resilience improvements at critical facilities such as hospitals, schools and local government buildings. The proposal will create jobs all across the country, while providing resilient, efficient and flexible spaces to sustain communities in the future and during times of crisis.”

Approaching a building’s electrical and networking infrastructure strategically can help meet a variety of goals, from energy savings to LEED certification. Legrand products can collectively contribute up to 33 points in four credit areas to move building projects toward LEED certification.

High Performance Buildings in the Market The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Rating System and certification program, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the most prominent pathway for the design, construction, and operation of high performance sustainable buildings in the market today.

Indoor Environmental Quality

This credit-based rating system awards points for a project’s ability to meet specific criteria, such as energy reduction and use of materials with recycled content. The number of points earned determines the certification level of the project: Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum. Manufacturers play an important role in the ability of projects to achieve these points by developing and supplying products that contribute to the intent of the credits. At Legrand, we continuously strive to understand and meet our customer’s demand for high performance buildings.

The Building Owner’s Choice LEED certification is achieved by earning credits. Building owners have many choices when purchasing products that contribute to certification. Some may be a more apparent choice than others. Electrical and networking infrastructure products are among those that can contribute towards certification, but are largely overlooked.

Module 1

This document provides architects, specifying engineers, designers, building owners and others an overview of Legrand products that collectively have the potential to contribute up to 33 of the 110* total points toward LEED certification. Achieving these points is not guaranteed and is subject to review by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI).

When approached strategically, a building’s power, light, data and A/V infrastructure can contribute to energy savings and occupant comfort and productivity. The most successful implementations occur when these needs are addressed early on in the design and construction process to ensure the space will meet the changing needs of the built environment and continue to meet the building’s mission for years to come.

Understand and reduce environmental impacts with recycled or regional content, minimized waste, and product disclosure documentation.

LEED professionals are required to complete Continuing Education Hours in order to maintain their LEED accreditation. To that end, Legrand offers 2 learning modules that are approved for CEU hours by GBCI.

Legrand products and solutions contribute to building performance in 4 LEED credit categories as well as Innovation.

How to Read Product Environmental Profiles: Understanding the Value of EPDs The expectation for better products, better systems, and better buildings has created demand for reliable disclosure methods for the health and environmental impacts of building materials. This course will explore the product transparency movement in terms of environmental product declarations, in particular the product environmental profile (PEP). An overview of how a PEP is created, the basic terms used in a PEP, and a part-by-part review of a sample PEP are presented.

Products cannot be certified to LEED. They do not individually result in the earning of points. In some cases, single products can contribute to a building owner’s ability to earn more than 1 point per credit or credit category.
