Third Sunday After the Epiphany

January 22, 2023 ~ ~ ~

OPENING SELECTION

“Let It Rise”

CALL TO WORSHIP**

Psalm 27:1, 4-9”

RESPONSE: For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

Leader: The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

One thing I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after:

People: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in the Lord’s temple.

RESPONSE: For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

Leader: The Lord will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble, will conceal me under the cover of his tent, and will set me high upon a rock.

People: And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies round about me; and I will offer sacrifices in the Lord’s tent with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

RESPONSE: For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

Leader: Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me!

People: “Come,” my heart said, “seek the Lord’s face.” Your face, O Lord, I seek.

Leader: Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, for you have been my help.

RESPONSE: For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH** (Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

*Universal PRAYER

INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP

MINISTRY THROUGH TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Holy God: As we present our tithes and offerings in worship, we know we come from a world that is tearing itself apart due to division. Even among your followers, we find ourselves shutting down and closing ourselves to those who don’t think or act as we do. We need to be reminded that you desire unity and one mind from your children – not a church void of disagreement, but one where we work at listening in love, more than working at speaking louder and winning the day. We dedicate not just our gifts, but our minds to the work of your unifying love. In Christ, we pray. Amen.

(1 Corinthians 1:10-18)
