“Enter Into His Gates with Thanksgiving & Praise” First Sunday In Lent March 6, 2022 OPENING “You Are Good” By: Israel Houghton

CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 91:1-2, 9-16 Response: Grant us salvation, Lord; in trouble be our refuge. Leader: People:

Those who dwell in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.”

Response: Grant us salvation, Lord; in trouble be our refuge. Leader: People:

Because you have made the Lord your refuge, the Most High your habitation, no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent.

Response: Grant us salvation, Lord; in trouble be our refuge. Leader: People:

Leader: People: Leader: People:

For God will give his angels charge over you to guard you in all your ways. They will bear you up on their hands lest you dash your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the adder, the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot. Because they cleave to me in love, I will deliver them; I will protect them, because they know my name. When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them. I will satisfy them with long life and show them my salvation.

Response: Grant us salvation, Lord; in trouble be our refuge.

CONGREGATIONAL SINGING “At the Cross” By: Isaac Watts/Ralph E. Hudson Verse 1 Alas! and did my Savior bleed? And did my Sov’reign die? Would He devote that sacred head For such a one as I? Verse 4 But drops of grief can ne’er repay The debt of love I owe: Here, Lord, I give myself away— ‘Tis all that I can do! Refrain At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away— It was there by faith I received my sight, And now I am happy all the day! (Verses 2 & 3 omitted.)

THE OLD TESTAMENT READINGS

MINISTRY THROUGH TITHES AND OFFERINGS By: Rev. Dr. Ken Sloane Director of Stewardship & Generosity, Discipleship Ministries, The United Methodist Church Mighty God: As we remember the strength of Jesus, facing the temptation offered by the devil, we remember too clearly how the temptations of food, of authority, and power have overcome us. We’ve been tricked to believe our wants were needs, and more is always better. May we offer our gifts to you this day with generosity and gratitude; strengthen us to resist temptation, that would present security or power in anyone but you. In Christ, we pray. Amen. (Luke 4:1-13)
