Jesus is trying to ground the disciples’ faith in the reality of his presence, in the concreteness of his being. He told them to touch him; he ate in front of them. He was announcing that he was real. What can we provide; what hands-on proof can we give that Jesus is alive among us? Of course, we have been in a pandemic and touching is still not something we want to engage in; but we can still give examples of lives being touched, hearts being touched.

CALL TO WORSHIP “Psalm 4
Response: There is a balm in Gilead, to make the wounded whole. Leader: People:
Answer me when I call, O God of my right! You have given me room when I was in distress. Be gracious to me, and hear my prayer.
Leader: People:
How long, O people, shall my honor suffer shame? How long will you love vain words, and seek after lies?
Leader:
But know that the Lord has set apart the righteous as God’s own; the Lord hears when I call.

Verse 1 If the world from you withhold of its silver and its gold, And you have to get along with meager fare, Just remember, in His Word, how He feeds the little bird— Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. Verse 4 When your youthful days are gone and old age is stealing on, And your body bends beneath the weight of care, He will never leave you then, He’ll go with you to the end— Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. Refrain Leave it there, leave it there, Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there; If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out. Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. (Verses 2 & 3 omitted.)

INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP MINISTRY THROUGH TITHES AND OFFERINGS By: Rev. Dr. Ken Sloane Director of Stewardship & Generosity, Discipleship Ministries, The United Methodist Church
Mighty God who brings life and hope out of death and despair, help us hear the invitation Christ offered to the disciples, “Touch me and see!” Make us bold to grab hold of the risen Christ, not for this day, but for all our days. May we offer our gifts this morning not to the church historical; the church that was; but to a church that is becoming, that is still being born, that Christ will bring into the future. May our eyes and ears and hearts continue to hold on to him as we help Christ lead his church forward! In his name, we pray. Amen. (Luke 24:36b-48)
BLESSING AND SENDING FORTH Go in peace. “I Found A Friend”
By: The Brooklyn Allstars
Response: There is a balm in Gilead, to make the wounded whole. Leader: People:
Be angry, but do not sin; commune with your own hearts in your beds, and be silent.
Leader: People:
Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the Lord.
Leader: People:
There are many who say, “O that we might see some good! Lift up the light of your countenance upon us, O Lord!”
Leader:
You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.
