“Faith of Our Mothers” By: Arthur Bardwell Patten

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY May 8, 2022

By: Rev. Dr. Ken Sloane Director of Stewardship & Generosity, Discipleship Ministries, The United Methodist Church

Verse 1 Faith of our mothers, living still In cradle song and bedtime prayer; In nursery lore and fireside love, Thy presence still pervades the air. Faith of our mothers, living faith, We will be true to thee till death.

OPENING “A Song To Mama” By: Boyz II Men Soloists: Mr. Marvin Moore & Mr. Darius Charles CALL TO WORSHIP Leader:

See what love has been given to us, that we should be called children of God.

Verse 4 Faith of our mothers, Christian faith, In truth beyond our stumbling creeds, Still serve the home and save the Church, And breathe thy spirit though our deeds; Faith of our mothers, Christian faith, We will be rue to thee till death.

Holy God: You work wonders beyond our imagination. Thank you for all the faithful people you have inspired in the history of the church. You have sent into our lives, kind Christians who have encouraged us in beautiful ways. Help us to keep growing as disciples, led by your Spirit. May we become more devoted to good works and acts of charity, so that others will be blessed in turn. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Acts 9:36-43)

CHECK YOUR EMAIL Remember to check your email on a regular basis from “Norfolk UMC Office,” not just for church related information, but for other news and information that may be useful to you or someone you know.

This Mother’s Day, celebrate those who have nurtured, no matter if they are mothers or not. We have all been shaped and cared for by a variety of people, not just mothers. And remember, as you give thanks for those whose experience of mother was positive and healing, that you need also to acknowledge those who have a different experience.
