“On Jordan’s Stormy Banks”
July 25, 2021
Verse 1 On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand And cast a wishful eye. To Canaan’s fair and happy land, Where my possessions lie. Verse 2 When shall I reach that happy place, And be forever blessed? When shall I see my Father’s face, And in His bosom rest?
By: Rev. Dr. Ken Sloane Director of Stewardship & Generosity, Discipleship Ministries, The United Methodist Church
OPENING “Everybody Ought To Know” By: Kevin Turner
CALL TO WORSHIP “Psalm 14” Response: My hope is lost; breathe life upon me. Leader: People: Leader: People:
Fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none that does good. The Lord looks down from heaven on all people, to see if there are any that are wise, who seek after God. They have all gone astray, they are all alike perverse; there is none that does good, no, not one.
Response: My hope is lost; breathe life upon me. Leader: People: Leader: People:
Have they no knowledge, the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon the Lord? There they shall be in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous. You would confound the plans of the poor, but the Lord is their refuge. O that deliverance for Israel would come from Zion! When the Lord restores their fortunes, Jacob shall rejoice and Israel shall be glad!
Response: My hope is lost; breathe life upon me.
PRAYER
By: Samuel Stennett and Norman Jonson
Chorus I am bound for the Promised Land; I am bound for the Promised Land. Oh, who will come and go with me, I am bound for the Promised Land. Amen.
Mighty and all-knowing God, who sees us as we are and as we might be: What offering can we give that will bring you joy? We have brought gifts this morning that you might dedicate them to the work of caring and compassion in our neighborhoods, in our nations, and throughout the world. Yet all the money we have, can’t accomplish what you can make happen, if we simply let Christ dwell in our heart– not for an hour on Sundays, but every hour of every day. This is the offering we dedicate this day. In Christ, our redeemer, we pray. Amen. (Ephesians 3:14-21)

The only way we can know something as deep and profound as the love of God, that we experience through the grace of Christ, is through the witness of the church. How do you understand anyone’s love? By living it, by sharing it, by talking about it.
