“Enter Into His Gates with Thanksgiving and Praise” July 31, 2022

Leader: People: Response:

Give thanks to the Lord for steadfast love, for all God’s wonderful works.

Leader:

When they are diminished and brought low through oppression, trouble, and sorrow, the Lord pours contempt upon princes and makes them wander in trackless wastes; but the Lord raises up the needy out of affliction, and makes their families like flocks.

Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Response: Leader: People: Leader: People:

Give thanks to the Lord for steadfast love, for all God’s wonderful works. O give thanks to the Lord, who is good, whose steadfast love endures for ever! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom the Lord has redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

they sow fields, and plant vineyards, and get a fruitful yield. They multiply greatly by the blessing of the Lord who does not let their cattle decrease.

People: Response:

The upright see it and are glad; and all wickedness stops its mouth. Whoever is wise, give heed to these things; consider the steadfast love of the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord for steadfast love, for all God’s wonderful works.

MINISTRY THROUGH TITHES AND OFFERINGS

CONGREGATIONAL SINGING

By: Rev. Dr. Ken Sloane Director of Stewardship & Generosity, Discipleship Ministries, The United Methodist Church

Verse 1 What a fellowship, what a joy divine, Leaning on the everlasting arms; What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, Leaning on the everlasting arms.

The Lord turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water. The Lord lets the hungry dwell there, and they establish a city in which to live;

Colossians 3:1-11

Dr. Sherry L. Daniels

Then in their trouble, they cried to the Lord, who delivered them from their distress, and led them by a straight way, till they reached a city in which to dwell.

The Lord turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into thirsty ground, a fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the wickedness of its inhabitants.

THE NEW TESTAMENT READING

PRAYER

“Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” By: Elisha A. Hoffman/Anthony J. Showalter Arr. By: Nolan Williams, Jr.

Give thanks to the Lord for steadfast love, for all God’s wonderful works.

Hosea 11:1-11 Psalm 107:1-9,43

INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP

Some wandered in the desert wastes, finding no way to a city in which to dwell; hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them.

Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wonderful works to humankind. For the Lord satisfies those who are thirsty, and fills the hungry with good things.

THE OLD TESTAMENT READINGS

Verse 2 O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way, Leaning on the everlasting arms; O how bright the path grows from day to day, Leaning on the everlasting arms. Verse 3 What have I to dread, what have I to fear, Leaning on the everlasting arms; I have blessed peace with my Lord so near, Leaning on the everlasting arms. Refrain Leaning, leaning, Safe and secure from all alarms; Leaning, leaning, Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Holy God, Loving Parent: Your patience with your children is beyond our comprehension! How many times have we sung praises to you “from whom all blessings flow” and yet in our lives, in our practice and in our giving, we’ve acted like most of those blessings are from our own – to do with as we wish? Often, we have been deaf to your teaching and blind to your leading. May the gifts we give today be a token to our goal to live generous lives that honor you and express gratitude for your goodness to us. In the name of Jesus, our savior, we pray. Amen. (Hosea 11:1-11)
