And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
You brought us into the net; you laid affliction on our loins; you let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us forth to a spacious place.

I will come into your house with burnt offerings; I will pay you my vows, that which my lips uttered and my mouth promised when I was in trouble. I will offer to you burnt offerings of fatlings, with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams; I will make an offering of bulls and goats.
Response: O people be glad and sing for joy! Declare God’s glory in every land! Leader:
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
Bless our God, O peoples, let the sound of God’s praise be heard, who has kept us among the living, and has not let our feet slip. For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried.

(Apostles’ Creed)
Come and hear, all you who worship God, and I will tell what God has done for me. I cried aloud to God, who was highly praised with my tongue. If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened, and has given heed to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, who has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me.
Verse 3 Now when I met my Savior, I met Him with a smile, He healed my wounded spirit, and owned me as His child, Around the throne of grace, He appoints my soul a place, I’m on the battlefield for my Lord. (Verse 2 omitted.)
THE OLD TESTAMENT READINGS Jeremiah 29:1, 4-7 Psalm 66:1-12
THE NEW TESTAMENT READING 2 Timothy 2:8-15

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ THE WORD FOR TODAY Dr. Sherry L. Daniels
PRAYER
Dr. Sherry L. Daniels Let our prayers look inward and outward at the same time. We pray for our own growth, our own healing, our own transformation. At the same time, we pray for a hurting and hungry world and for the will to reach beyond our walls in service and love. Let our songs sing of the Christ of faith, who sustains us with a powerful presence but also of the Jesus who ate with sinners and healed the sick, the one who went out approved by God. ~Discipleship Ministries, UMC
CONGREGATIONAL SINGING “I Am On the Battlefield for My Lord” By: Sylvanna Bell/E. V. Banks Arr. By: Joseph Joubert
Refrain I am on the battlefield for my Lord, I’m on the battlefield for my Lord; And I promised Him that I would serve Him till I die. I am on the battlefield for my Lord. Verse 1 I was alone and idle, I was a sinner too, I heard a voice from heaven, say there is work to do, I took the Master’s hand, and I joined the Christian band, I’m on the battlefield for my Lord.

INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP MINISTRY THROUGH TITHES AND OFFERINGS By: Rev. Dr. Ken Sloane Director of Stewardship & Generosity, Discipleship Ministries, The United Methodist Church
God of Love and Compassion: The need for your presence in this world is often overwhelming. Confrontation and division are everywhere we look: in communities, in our countries, in our church, and in our world. We have endured much, and others have had to endure so much more. The apostle Paul reminds us that if we endure, we will reign with Jesus. May the gifts we give help all your children endure in these strange and challenging times. In the name of Jesus, the Christ, we pray. Amen. (2 Timothy 2:8-15)
BLESSING AND SENDING FORTH Go in peace.
