CHRISTIAN FORMATION | 10 am FAITH AND LITERATURE Saint Michael Chapel TODAY: Elie Wiesel’s “Night”, with
Lauren Wainwright Night is Elie Wiesel’s masterpiece, a candid, horrific, and deeply poignant autobiographical account of his survival as a teenager in the Nazi death camps. This new translation by Marion Wiesel, Elie’s wife and frequent translator, presents this seminal memoir in the language and spirit truest to the author’s original intent. And in a substantive new preface, Elie reflects on the enduring importance of Night and his lifelong, passionate dedication to ensuring that the world never forgets man’s capacity for inhumanity to man.
AUGUST 12: Jodi Picoult’s “Small Great
Things”, with Elizabeth Lang ‘There is a fire raging, and we have two choices: we can turn our backs, or we can try to fight it.’ When a newborn baby dies after a routine hospital procedure, there is no doubt about who will be held responsible: the nurse who had been banned from looking after him by his father. What the nurse, her lawyer and the father of the child cannot know is how this death will irrevocably change all of their lives, in ways both expected and not.
