C h a i r m a n ’s R e v i e w The year ended 31 March 2013 is reviewed in the 65th Annual Report of the African Children’s Feeding Scheme (ACFS). It certainly presented its challenges with escalating costs and restricted growth regarding donation income. 7KH EXGJHW IRU WKH \HDU HQGHG 0DUFK SURYLGHG IRU D GHÀFLW which I did not quantify in the previous report. The anticipated budget SURYLGHG IRU D GHÀFLW RI 5 PLOOLRQ +RZHYHU ZLWK FRVW VDYLQJ LQLWLDWLYHV DQG VPDOO LQFUHDVH LQ GRQDWLRQV LQFRPH WKH DFWXDO GHÀFLW IRU WKH \HDU ZDV 5 PLOOLRQ $OWKRXJK WKH UHVHUYHV FRXOG DFFRPPRGDWH WKH VKRUWIDOO WKH\ ZHUH VXEVWDQWLDOO\ GHSOHWHG 'HVSLWH WKLV ZH VXFFHHGHG LQ QRW GHFUHDVLQJ WKH QXPEHU RI FKLOGUHQ ZKR EHQHÀW IURP IHHGLQJ SURYLGHG E\ WKH $&)6 The global economy remains a factor together with high food and transport costs as well as there being little growth in donor income. To maintain its activities of feeding 31 000 under-nourished children each GD\ $&)6 KDV HPEDUNHG RQ DQ DJJUHVVLYH IXQGUDLVLQJ FDPSDLJQ 7KLV KDV already born fruit and a grant from the ELMA Foundation was received in June 2013. The budget for the year ended 31 March 2014 indicates a surplus of R1 million. Additional funds must still be acquired to replace the reserves that were utilised over the last two years and try to build up reserves in the coming years.
