Distinguished Serivce Award Laura Nomura

In 2020 we have a second Distinguished Service Award Recipient. Laura Nomura’s three decade plus professional career started as an auditor, and for roughly the last 20 years, her public service career has included a number of local government positions of progressively increasing responsibility, including in cities and special district. Laura is a public servant and has been an active CSMFO member for many years, serving as chapter chair, committee chair, senior advisor, board member and president of CSMFO. She has worked on a number of annual conference host committees, site selection committees and never hesitates to answer the call for the benefit of CSMFO members. Laura Nomura is a certified public accountant, and is the Deputy General Manager of the Eastern Municipal Water District in Perris, California. Her career includes work in finance and administration with the cities of Riverside, Hemet, Irwindale, Riverside Public Utilities, McGladrey and Pullen, Fleming Reiss and Company, and Laura has also held positions in private industry. Laura is a graduate of Cal State Fullerton, and served as CSMFO President in 2012, presiding over our conference here at the Disneyland Hotel, eight years ago. Laura currently serves as the Chair of the CSMFO Career Development Committee, whose primary objective is to promote the professional development of our members by providing affordable and accessible training opportunities. Among many other accomplishments, Laura was instrumental in the recent process of successfully transitioning services from long-time career development consultant Don Maruska to a new strategic partnership with GFOA. For outstanding service in the field of municipal finance, we honor Laura Nomura as a 2020 recipient of the CSMFO Distinguished Service Award.
