Advocacy Long Term Care Ombudsman Program Vision: To ensure that residents of long term care facilities have quality of life and the right to a dignified existence, and can exercise their rights as a resident without fear or interference, coercion or reprisal. Mission: Preserving the quality of life for long term care residents by empowering them and their families through education, advocacy and support. They provide 4 Key Programs: Long Term Care Facility Visits: Professional staff and specially trained volunteers visit long term care facilities weekly, getting to know residents, providing advocacy, support and education about their rights. When requested, they act as a voice for resident treatment and care to help mediate resolution, grievances and disputes. Victims of Crime Program: Provide trained staff and volunteers who support nursing home residents who may be a victim of a crime, experience physical abuse, assault, or financial exploitation. They ensure the victims are protected through all available legal means and support

them through the process including: meeting with residents; assessing their needs; cooperatively working with local law authorities, lawyers and courts; and providing referrals for residents as needed. Information Center: Provides free and objective education and information services to individuals, families, and caregivers seeking placement assistance. This includes: clarifying nursing home regulations; assist families to cope with the costly and complicated process of long term care placement; provide directories of all licensed facilities and bed availability; and consultations to discuss Medicaid/Medicare, state, federal, and facility regulations, living wills, guardianship and durable powers of attorney.

Employment Services MERS/Goodwill MERS/Goodwill provides opportunities for persons with barriers to employment to work and live more independently in the community. The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) provides paid on-the-job training, work experience and placement services for individuals 55+ years of age for individuals meeting the income and age criteria.
