INTRODUCTION Envisioned more than a year ago, the 2011 Digital Directory seeks to put information and resources for our community more readily available to those who may not be aware of the vast array of entertainment venues and social services specific to the LGBTQIA community. I hope you will find this directory an environmentally-conscience way to share resources as well as a useful reference for each of you. As the Saint Louis Region prepares for yet another fantastic year of celebrations throughout the month of June, our city has much to celebrate and look forward to in the year ahead. As a community we have made great progress in the areas of equality for all, and the celebration of the diversity found within communities of Southern Illinois. As a community volunteer, I have been honored to serve the residents and supporters in a number of different ways. As the editor of MetroEast NEWS, our vision has been to bring greater awareness to events and news specific to the Metro-East Communities. We are in fact blessed to have so many great organizations and establishments that create a vibrant and exciting opportunity for anyone who call the gateway city home. MetroEast NEWS is operated as a part of the Daniel McCree Foundation, as a living legacy of an artist from Southern Illinois.

“We seek to be a voice for those who traditionally are not heard. The Daniel McCree Foundation advocates for Suicide Prevention as well as outreach in the areas of HIV/AIDS awareness. In 2008, we secured www.BellevillePride.com and www.BellevillePride.Org and utilize these platforms to further the causes of social justice and equality. We also seek to provide timely information for those who wish to support local business and LGBTQIA organizations. A special thanks to each of our directory sponsors and to the civic leaders who work tirelessly throughout the year.

"Dreams" 12-1-2004 , By: Daniel McCree www.DanielMcCree.Org December 1, 2004

"Dreams"

I was very happy to be with a group of people that were all nice + comforting to be with. One man showed us a home movie of him doing a sort of battle like dance with a bison.

We were all on a beautiful Daniel (Danny) McCree (1979-2007)

island with hundreds of people. My friend from high school was with us

+ after the man showed us the clip + talked for awhile I guess we all went to sleep. When I woke up I stepped out of the room and headed toward the bathroom.

All of the people on the island were very attractive + I felt good to be among them. I felt something strange in my mouth like my tooth on my left side was loosining.

Panic set in + I tried to keep calm. I reached a mirror + was horrified to find my front teeth falling out. I pressed them back in + went out to the beach where there were many people.

I noticed dolphins swimming + decided to swim. I met a dolphin + its stern was soft. It talked to me + gave much sympathy. I'm careining (Careening) a little right now I know I'm gonna be alright and I also know Ive made mistakes and missed maneuvers which may have taken me a route that would leave me feeling something similar to what I once. First Civil Union in Madison County (EDWARDSVILLE)

The Sivia Law Firm, better known as "Same-Sex Legal" (www.SameSexLegal.com) is actively seeking the first couple to be recognized under the new Illinois Civil Union Law. As the law goes into effect, local courts are moving towards the implementation of the new changes. Principal Attorney Todd Sivia is committed to facilitate the first Civil Unions under the new rights of the LGBT communities in the Metro-East Region. Under the new law, gender identity is truly equal, and becomes a non-issue. Attorney Todd Sivia explains:

"It does not matter about transgender individuals because civil unions allow both same sex and men and women. If you know of anyone that wants to be the first couple to get hitched in Madison County. We are helping the County Clerk out." (pictured above: Principal Legal Counsel, Todd Sivia & Erin Margaret)

For those couples who previously went to Iowa or other state, are now recognized under SB1716, the "Illinois Religious Freedom Protection and Civil Union Act." The bill allows both gay and straight couples to enter into civil unions, giving them some of the same benefits automatically available to married couples, including the right to visit a sick partner in the hospital, disposition of a deceased loved one's remains and the right to make decisions about a loved one's medical care. Any couple who is interested can contact the firm about the procedure required under this new law. The Same-Sex Legal Law Firm is a member of both Missouri & Illinois Bar Association and operates a central office in Edwardsville and a secondary location in Alton, Illinois. Since its establishment in 2006, Sivia Business & Legal Services, P.C specializes in asset protection, and the specific legal issues that surround the establishment of non-traditional families and estate planning. They also handle employment law issues, in addition to divorce, child custody and child support issues.

BellevillePride.com was established in June 2008, as an outreach project of the Daniel McCree Foundation. (www.DanielMcCree.Org). MetroEast NEWS is Independent of the Metro East Pride Organization (MEPSI), which plans the annual festival each June. For Information about the Annual Festival, contact metroeastpride@gmail.com For information about MetroEast NEWS and BellevillePride.com, contact us at: danielmccreeorg@gmail.com OR editor@bellevillepride.com

MetroEast News began as an outreach of MCCGSL, with a focus on HIV/AIDS and Health resources & information. In 2009, the content began to serve more specifically the needs of Metro East communities and rural Southern Illinois. In 2010, MetroEast NEWS published under the title Metro East Pride News, until November 2010, when it once again resumed publishing independently of the MEP organization. Our mission is simple: "Provide timely News and Event information to the entire Southern Illinois LGBTQIA community with a specific focus on those under-represented in more mainstream media outlets.
