PRIMARY PROSPECTUS

2021/2022

About The Collegiate Trust The Collegiate Trust works in the boroughs of Croydon and Crawley, educating children and young people from 3-19 years of age with a clear vision to deliver exceptional education for all. Such an education achieves excellent outcomes in pupil progress and attainment, a rich creative, cultural and physical learning experience, and great personal and social development for all pupils. This is achieved by working with and developing strong teams of staff in each school, under the direction of the Principal of the school and the Local Governing Body (LGB). The Trust grew out of Riddlesdown Collegiate, an outstanding (OFSTED, May 2016) secondary school in Croydon with almost 2,000 students and 200 staff. Gossops Green (p9), in Crawley, was the next school (and the first primary) to join the Trust, followed by Waterfield Primary (p13) (also in Crawley). The Quest Academy, Courtwood Primary (p5) and Gilbert Scott Primary (p7) were the next cohort of schools to join the Trust, followed by Kenley Primary School (p11) most recently in September 2021.

Courtwood is nestled into a green hillside, close to Selsdon Woods nature reserve. It is surrounded by the leafy Forestdale estate, yet close to all of Croydon’s many amenities via the tram system. We use our beautiful grounds including our very own ‘Wise Owl Woods’ to enhance and enrich our curriculum, including Forest school. Forest School sessions provide learning opportunities for our children through practical activities in an outdoor environment, developing innovation, problem solving, risk taking, creativity and teamwork. We also have our own Edible Playground where each class learns about, grows and harvests their own flowers, fruits and vegetables each year, fostering a love of outdoor learning and developing an understanding of the natural world. Our sports field and pond also provide plentiful opportunities for learning in all curriculum subjects to be taught in the great outdoors!

We value the right to LEARN

BE SAFE

An Inclusive Community and Nurturing School Our school is an inclusive community of children, staff, parents, governors, friends and colleagues. We passionately believe in the inclusion of every child and our aim is to nurture every child and prepare them for the future. Our purpose built Nurture provision ensures that every child is able to access emotional wellbeing support throughout their time at Courtwood should it be necessary, through interventions such as Drawing and Talking, ELSA and Young Carers groups. We develop children’s social and emotional skills in order that they do well at school and with peers, as well as develop their resilience and capacity to deal more confidently with the trials and tribulations of life. The school has an excellent reputation in the borough for inclusion and provides specialist teaching for children on the Autistic Spectrum in our Enhanced Learning Provision (The Treehouse). Children at Courtwood are happy, kind, tolerant and enjoy learning.

What We Are About Excellent communication is at the heart of everything we do. At Gossops Green Primary School, we believe that communication is the KEY to unlocking the potential for every learner to be successful. Our curriculum is driven by four key themes, which we believe unlock the potential that all children at Gossops Green possess

Spiritual, physical and emotional wellbeing Effective communication supports our children to hear and see that they are valued and important. Our children are enabled to express their feelings, beliefs, show empathy and be aware of their own physical and emotional well-being. Knowledge, skills and understanding Our children will become confident communicators who aspire to read widely, develop maths fluency and are able to articulate their knowledge across a wide range of subjects. In an ever-changing world our children will understand and use digital platforms with sensitivity, intelligence and full awareness of technology’s power to enhance communication. Belonging – local and global Our children learn that good communicators develop an appreciation of others; their needs, beliefs, values and cultures. This empowers them to challenge stereotypes, bias and discrimination. Our children learn to understand the ways in which communication can be used to contribute positively to the local and wider community. Lifelong Learners Communication is the gateway to learning, academic achievement and success beyond school and into adulthood. Our children learn to be critical thinkers and develop a life-long love of learning.
