ISSUE ONE
LIGHT OF LUXURY
Light is a vital element of a luxury space. It brings out the beauty of a room. It sets tone, draws attention, and helps define how a space flows.
Lutron reflects on how people live in, and love, their most personal spaces, and then reimagines their dayto-day. This guides us towards creating solutions that help architects and designers realize the full potential of a space for their clients.
Inspired by our relationships with so many world-class architects and interior designers, Lutron is dedicated to thoughtful design and providing solutions that are beautiful, functional and complementary to any space. Our vision for excellent design considers how these solutions will be installed, and how they harmonize with overall architecture.
“Control of light is a magical tool. You create ambience, you create experience and you create a mood.”

LIGHT OF LUXURY
From commercial and hospitality spaces to experiential retail and luxury residences, being able to shape and control light gives the user the ability to easily change the way people experience a space.
And it’s not just about illumination, but also giving people the power to harness it to maximum effect. Controls let the user explore different settings, moods and atmospheres to suit their tastes.
“With the press of a button one can transform the mood of a space, making the use of light more versatile,” says Shantanu Garg, Shantanu Garg Design.
“From highlighting art elements to other key design features, it can add depth – unlike a flat and uniformly illuminated space. In short, it gives me the opportunity to create a visual balance with striking elements in the space.”
“Light is integrated into the design process from day one. When we think of an idea, we think of how to light it.”

WALL ART
Usually we only put the most eye-catching objects on our walls. Why should wall controls be any different?
Like jewellery for the walls, they can add new dimensions of materiality and personality to a luxury living space.
1.
WALL ART
Luxury lives in the details.
Wall controls are one of those details, and they can absolutely be an accent to complement a particular design style or lifestyle, rather than distract from it.
“Keypads are located in visible spots, so it’s important that they are coordinated with some of the key finishes in the space, like metals or other colour finishes,” says Shantanu Garg.
Designed to feel like jewellery for the walls of your home, materiality and sense of touch are important factors that provide cohesiveness across decor choices.
“In a luxury space every detail is important, be it a visual or functional element.”

WALL ART
“I love customization, and love using similar surface finishes as on my walls, panels or cladding to match the keypads,” says Shantanu Garg.
Hand-crafted with meticulous attention to detail and available in a variety of finishes, Lutron wall controls deliver a unique lighting experience.
The sleek architectural design, innovative technical approach and customizable controls help to make them a seamless addition to any room.
“Wall controls have to be beautiful objects,” says Hiren Patel, Hiren Patel Architects. “They have to be visible, so they shouldn’t disturb the design of the walls.”

“As a designer, it’s great to have control units that can be seamlessly integrated into a space. ”
THE SMART WAY 2.
Smart living brings together beautiful light, intelligent blinds and powerful controls, all working harmoniously. Systems like Lutron’s HomeWorks have helped redefine expectations around seamless control of light, and continue to raise the bar on creating beautiful light throughout the home.
The goal is to create home automation that’s sophisticated, but intuitive. But how do you balance complex functionality with an experience that should feel simple?
THE SMART WAY
Lutron’s approach to smart living complements interior décor with sophisticated, intuitive controls – creating a perfect scene with a simple press of a button.
Users can operate their blinds and lighting systems from their smart phone or by using voice commands to easily adjust lighting to suit a mood or atmosphere.
“Technology is like a box of colours and initially you want to use them all,” says Hiren Patel. “But eventually you just choose what is required. In the same way, new technology takes time to reach to simplicity.”
“Smart home technology is an amazing way to create a complete personalized experience.”

THE SMART WAY
Daylight controls can energize your mornings with natural light, or ensure privacy when you need it. Make adjustments whenever you want, or set a personalized schedule. It’s about giving people choices, and control.
“Smart home technology helps us to make the super large homes we work with to stay safe, and easy to live in and monitor while away,” says Rajiv Parekh, who recommends smart home technology in large homes.
“We use smart home technology to conserve power significantly, to automate systems to ensure blinds react to direction of the sunlight – this prevents harmful UV rays in homes, which can create fading and aging of expensive art and objects.”
“We try to minimize visible technology, but maximize the convenience to your life”

FEELS LIKE HOME
After spending a lot more time living and working at home over the past few years, people have a whole new perspective on the home as a sanctuary.
Comfort and wellbeing are priorities that are shaping how homes are designed, and light is at the heart of it.
3.
FEELS LIKE HOME
The pandemic changed the way we live. While the world re-adjusts to the way things were, it’s worth looking at some of the ways our attitudes have changed from how they were pre-pandemic. Particularly our attitude and relationship towards our homes.
Over the past few years, we have formed a new bond with our homes. Circumstances created a need to turn our homes into sanctuaries, and the importance our homes play in our personal wellbeing cannot be understated.
“When we propose certain concepts for adaptable use of space and other functions in homes, where we would previously meet some resistance, clients are now more understanding,” says Rajiv Parekh, Red Architects. “It is easier to convince them that what we are proposing is important.”
“The pandemic changed peoples’ mindsets about their health, their life priorities. Homes have become a significant priority.”

FEELS LIKE HOME
Light isn’t just something we see, but something we feel around us.
Light can also emulate the natural sun to align with the circadian rhythms of our bodies. The right design can create a sense of wellbeing and connection to the natural rise and fall of the sun.
Lutron lighting controls and blinds offer carefully curated experiences, while delivering personalized convenience for any home.
It all contributes to an atmosphere of wellbeing that supports self-care and turns the home into an inspiring haven, where layers of light create beautiful and dynamic spaces.
“We
are more aware of our homes and the way we live. Things that we took for granted are now the most important.”
